Digital 35mm film cartridge announced

You may remember Silicon Film, which was announced ten years ago but never released a working product.

Here's a new website for another claimed digital insert for 35mm film cameras:

http://www.re35.net/index.html

Of course it could just be an April Fool's Day prank. Quite elaborate and convincing looking though...

Chris

It would be nice to have something like this. Concepts like the digital film cartridge has appeared a few times before but was binned at the last minute because of cost and technological constraints that existed at the time.

It would be an excellent way to unlearn the habit of chimping, which we all fall into from time to time.

Yeah, I saw that. Someone else saw it and added it to their list.
So? That's not conclusive proof to me that it is a hoax.

There's no proof that it isn't. Just a web page with no detail and a couple CGI renderings.

the thing that intrigues me about the concept on the site (fake or not) is that it seems entirely possible. with the new technologies on the table in regards to ‘flexible’ displays and such, this could certainly be done. even if this is an april fools joke, I think this concept as presented could be used as the basis for an actual attempt at such a product and in time with the technologies already existing, the cost could come down enough to make it viable particularly when one considers the cost a lot of advanced amateurs and enthusiasts spend ever year or so on new bodies. the idea of an anolog camera with digital capture is one that I think more people share a desire for than most recognize. the huge leap in popularity of Leica with the introduction of the M8 and the fact that the epson RD-1 still being over a thousand dollars for a used model, shows that people like the idea of a simple camera that can be used just like a film camera. even better if you can use both film and digital.

I think a lot of people have mocked this, especially considering the first ‘silicon film’ idea ended up as little more than vaporware, but the idea itself is doable, and a market would create itself very quickly in the event of such a product coming onto market. particularly in the form that this website shows off. ‘pros’ likely wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole, but the advanced amateurs and enthusiasts would be all over this. I think its a concept that shouldn’t be mocked and I think its likely that (and the this very site, fake or not clearly shows) that people are thinking about this, and if they are thinking about it, they want it. a lot of people do. well the big camera manufacturers probably don’t, but well that business.

Of course not, and I mentioned that possibility in my original post.
I do find it curious that you are so insistent that it cannot be true.
