Nothing wrong with making a living. There's also nothing wrong with taking advantage of celebrity status. The same critics would be whining just as loud if she was collecting welfare instead. Five years from now, nobody will remember her so I hope she saved some.

When it comes from charitable contributions, it is a bit like welfare.

So, she made a quarter mil to advertise a *counterproductive* abstinence-only 'education' agenda? (She's a walking example of how it doesn't work: she couldn't have had that stuff laid on any thicker if she was raised by nuns in a ruler factory.)

Nice job if you can get it, (And somehow stand yourself,) I suppose.

Hope no one gets the idea that kind of gig 'trickles down.'

Charitable contributions are voluntary while welfare is tax dollars. The girl is in a no win situation with critics. I wish her the best. As long as her mother is in the political spotlight, the media is going to hound her every move.

Charity includes tax dollars as well in the form of deductions for the contributors. Most contributors don't give money for the purpose of paying nice fees to celebrities.

Only with her mother in the spotlight does anyone ever dream of paying her this kind of money, so it is hard for me to feel sorry for her getting this attention.

In Canada, if you give money to a charity, you get to deduct 17 cents of every dollar you give from your income tax.
If you give money to a political party (the ultimate charity), you get a 100% deduction from your income tax.

Personally, I think they have it backwards.

Does it work similarly in the USA?

As far as I know, contributions to political parties are not tax deductible... not that I would know personally as I wouldn't personally give a cent to any politician or political party.

Here, charitable contributions are basically 100% deductible. Political contributions are 0% deductible. Maybe this is one place where we get it closer to right.

Again, it is somewhat appalling to see the Palin family take tax-deducted money and gobble it up. There is absolutely no reason for Bristol Palin to be an example for the harm that might come from being an unwed mother any more than Natalie Portman or some other celebrity mother who will never miss a meal because of being a single mom.

You can't point to any post where I've said something against any politician's children unless they we're adults in politics.

If Bristol is getting a pile of money being a spokesman against how she lives because of who her mother is , she is in politics.

Regarding upstanding anything, who was it who lied to the world and then wasted a few billion dollars killing a few hundred thousand Iraqis?
(Hint, I think if you fact check, you'll find it was a Republican president).
How upstanding is that?
