Curious

So what is the official sanctioned news source for Pentaxians? Since they all are not equal what's the only allowable source to get information from.

I tend to trust Der Spiegel, NPR, and the AP above most others. But really anything without an obvious, glaring bias is fine with me. I'm literate enough to pick out the slant in most cases and digest the facts.

I read sources from all over the world.
If there is a link to the original source on any outlet, I will follow it.
I tend to check Thompson Reuters for financial stuff.
CNN, UPI and local newspapers for breaking non political events.
Politics is a chimera that can take a lot to get to the source, but I do try.
First rule of thumb there, is consider the source.
That is at least a start.

What is the sanctioned source for the GOP/conservative/libertarian/teabaggers?

My thought, is that you can't trust any source these days, since they all have an axe to grind.

At least that's what FOX will tell you.
There are ways to get through that.
Consider the source.

Those are good sources, and I'll throw in the big three American online papers, WP, NYT and WSJ, with the same caveat of sorting past the opinion. Murdock hasn't completely changed the WSJ to Fox.

Conservatives are world class liars so I will never ever believe anything they say.

I do try to read / watch / listen to some conservative stuff, just to see what 'unbiased reality' looks like from that angle. I may have mentioned that back when Malcom ran it, I subscribed to Forbes for the same.

Let's cut the 'everything has a bias' crap because while true, the statement completely obliterates degrees of bias and the attempts to control for it by the better news outlets. In other words, there's bias on purpose and for a purpose, and there's institutional bias that's there because of our society's shared mainstream values. The two are different in degree and cause.

I find it endlessly amusing, as I took a media class at a high-end Eastern liberal university in the mid 70s, and learned all about this bias thing back then. Now the right wing radicals have taken this hoary Liberal Leftist Radical argument and put it to their own use. How many actually know they are parroting Marxist-Socialist criticism of capitalist news production?

so why do you all post articles from the the dailykos? huffington post? and various progressive blogs? You claim that you read legit sources of news but rarely if ever do I see these sources cited.

For whats its worth I read the AP/Reuters/UPI/NYT/Washington Post/Boston Globe/Irish Times/International Hearld Tribune/Fox/CNN/MSNBC/BBC News feeds as well as several others that i watch through the day but then again I am an uninformed wingnut if i remember correctly

Me - because huffington & some progressive blogs offer a world view that's more consistent with mine ---- AND provide provocative stuff to quote here
I do check with the more 'news' news sites to ensure there's truth in the opinion...

Now here's a return question: why do conservatives deny watching Fox and the agit-talking heads? Or do y'all actually get the day's talking points second hand from the hanger-on websites?

It is instructive to go google these talking points - the right is far better organized about this than the left, though the left has its moments. There's an 'issue' that gets generated from something semi-random and insignificant. This 'issue' is featured during the day on Fox and across dozens of conservative web sites (and I'm assuming talk radio). And, wouldn't you know it, the thing makes its way onto this here board.

I don't read the Daily Kos unless directed to it by a post. The Huffington Post is a different animal, since its news largely consists of links to other, more established, news sources. I don't mind anyone posting a controversial article from either side and letting everyone have at it, though.

Because the liberal slanted outlets have a lot more credibility built in..
Huffpo vs Newsmax.... NO contest...
Any "lamesteam media" vs . ADMITTEDLY slanted FOX.. no contest..
Also most liberal press tries to give at least some credible primary sources.. (think of the now removed "endorsement" of Ryan from , which conserv. The Heritage Center for Data analysis)
See discussion in this UK Progressive"
The Atlantic: The Man Behind Paul Ryan?s Budget Plan Got the Tax Cuts Wrong, Too | UK Progressive
When "slumming" I do like to browse the Frumforum for a sane conservative perspective...
World news, I like to cruise Ausie outlets, English translation Japanese outlets, and almost any with less emphasis on the more "propagandized" US outlets..Even Al-Jezziera has it's moments. I'm not afraid to look at the "other side"...

Data is data.. as long as it's not all "talking points" with a fact "vacuum" it's worth taking a look at.. IF I see a buzz word (like were broke) I can assume there is no meat there.. This is the US and we are "idling" so "were broke" is a defeatist attitude to begin with. won't tolerate it. ;(

I think conservatives should take a looong hard look at the facts (and counter facts) to their ass-u-mr- tions....

no rock is left unturned.. from Seeking Alpha to smarttaxes.org
Modern Monetary Theory’s (MMT) Explains Why Deficits Do Not Matter Per Se – Smart Taxes Network

most progressive sites are "collectors" bringing in outside data from both approved and independent.. most Neocons are "reactors" spreading FUD and relying on only "approved" source material and ignoring all the rest.. for the most part.

today the "Christian Science Monitor" has my attention...........

Palin thinks Obama is dangling "shiney things" to distract all us "bird brains" I'm sure it would apply to her.........
QuoteQuote:
Thus ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin tweeted on Wednesday that her followers shouldn’t let the birth certificate hoopla distract them from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s afternoon press conference – the first ever by a head of the US central bank.

“Stay focused, eh?” Ms. Palin wrote.

Talk show host Glenn Beck said the same thing on his syndicated radio show.
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/The-Vote/2011/0427/Three-reasons-why-P...th-certificate

QuoteQuote:
Thus Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who has said that developer/reality show star Donald Trump is wrong on the “birther” issue, hit the administration for trying to prove his (Priesbus’s) own point.

“The president ought to spend his time getting serious about repairing the economy,” Mr. Priebus said Wednesday. “Unfortunately his campaign politics and talk about birth certificates is distracting him from our No. 1 priority – our economy.”
Pure comedy...............can't wait for this:

QuoteQuote:
Also, Donald Trump will reportedly be there as a guest of The Washington Post. So Obama can ask Mr. Trump in public when he’s going to release his tax returns, as he promised he’d do if Obama released a birth certificate.
today ventures for tomorrows discussions...

“We could cut three-quarters of our military and still have the biggest one in the world. We have a war that two-thirds of the country wants ended. Up through the Korean War we used to increase taxes on rich people and corporations, not cut them, to pay for wars. Why is it inconceivable that anything be done about this, and why is it not even talked about?”

Baker responded, basically agreeing with me. Walker, too, agreed with me, said he favored cutting “defense” and also objected to the unconstitutionality of undeclared wars launched by presidents. Simpson too said he agreed and wanted the military cut. And it’s true that cutting it was part of his proposal to the president. But then Simpson stressed a particular part of the military that he would like to cut, namely . . . wait for it . . . healthcare for soldiers. Here’s that bit. Listen at the end for Sabato’s punditry and refusal to ever be mistaken.
