There have been legitimate cases of raping a prostitute, but they have generally involved violence and weapons. This is really suspiciously like a setup.
it sounds more like a setup. having said that, the circumstances that the prostitute kept on coming by, recorded the events and collected the money, somehow weakened her case from the get go. I must say, nice try but nothing more than a futile attempt. I would had her ass handed down in jail for extortion and libel.

The more that comes out about this, especially the more about how quickly it was used politically.. the more it really *does* look like a set-up.

Not that it validates the idea that prostitutes (or former ones for some reason working in celebrity hotel service) 'can't' be raped, but you don't have to go *there* to see the frame-up. The 'public discourse' on all this was, 'Let's bring this 'Socialist down' and call liberals hypocrites if questions are asked, and say women complaining of rape should never be believed, if someone casts aspersions on their history, to boot,'

But if you put the actual facts together, since they've come out, .....it'd be looking like a setup regardless of the woman's history.

For better or worse , set up or not the judge solicited the services of a prostitute which I assume is illegal in NM. Even if he was a good judge , he engaged in illegal activity ....he's done.

It is politically stupid, but it is a petty misdemeanor--like a traffic ticket.

Well not really like a traffic ticket. One may be unaware that they are speeding . Lots of folks ran a red light when they honestly believed they had time to clear the intersection. Many tickets are issued as result of an accident.
The judge didn't accidently , unknowingly or inocently call and pay the hooker 8 times.
"Hmmm lets see this add in the yellow pages for Kandy Caines Escort Service says discrete companionship for gentlemen of discerning taste. I'd like someone to have a nice dinner and intellectual conversation with...."

Most people know they are speeding, or ran a red light, or didn't stop at at the stop sign, too. Save that story for the judge.

It is not a serious crime, and the fine is minimal.

Is the fine less than the going rate for a prostitute? Maybe NM should just legalize prostitution and levy an excise tax so they don't need to deal with enforcement to collect minimal fines.

This is an economically depressed area. In this case, the prostitute came to his home for $200. I would expect the fine to be no more than that, but it would probably be deferred to nothing. The big club in the prostitution stings is usually disclosure.

It gets better, though. The last big sex bombshell was a few weeks ago when it was disclosed that the second highest administrator at the University was part of a nationwide internet prostitution ring.

This gets meatier. Apparently the victim is alleging that the time the judge performed oral sex on her without her permission was the first of the 9 times she did business with him. She taped him doing it again on the 9th time, but that incident is not the basis for the charges. The first one, which was not taped, is the alleged rape. It appears that she did not even want to bring charges, but did so after the police interrogated her and her pimp about the sex tape she sold them. She intended to use the tape for extortion, but has not yet been charged with that crime.

This may have started as a media obsession with sex, but it is looking like it may have more implications about our police.

There is a lot going on with our police that is getting a bit ugly, but this gets everyone's attention. We have an abnormal number of shootings, a chief who instructs an officer to change a report so as to help the wife of the director of public safety avoid DWI, an officer on trial for killing his wife, and on and on.

of course, that is quite alarming. although the police have somehow progressed during it's initial inception into society from combating the likes of anarchists, mobsters and corruption. the danger however is going back to the dark ages and end up being like the mexican and russian police. of course, illegal drug distribution should always be on close checked. illegal drug distribution has always been a crime enabler.
