10,000 miles in 5,000 minutes

Reynolds Buick GMC Blog: 10,000 miles in 5,000 minutes

A 1960 Buick drives around Daytona at 120mph, only stopping to change tires and driver every 1000 miles. The car gets refueled at 120mph. The fuel car and how they do it is pretty impressive. Definately worth the time to watch it if you're into these cars.

After a false start, the event was a success and the Invicta ran 10,000 miles in just under 5,000 minutes- three and a half days basically nonstop at an average speed of 120.186 mph- for 10,000 miles!
After blowing an engine on the first try they did get it to finish the test.

Hey, those tailfins are awesome!

On the block in Springfield Gardens, Queens (NY City) where I grew up in the 1960's
a neighbor drove a very similar 1960 Chevrolet Impala. It was green, and immense!

Until around 1969 my family owned a black 1959 Plymouth Savoy.
It too had fairly large fins, but they didn't curl over like those GM's...
