This stuff happens more than we like to think. A photographer was swept out to sea in California getting tsunami shots after the Japan quake. It wasn't that big but he couldn't handle the current.

Very sad story, but I was uplifted to read: “If I had been here I could have saved him,”.

It is so refreshing to not see the practically universal error of "If I would have"....like rubbing cheese graters on the ears, that one is....that I could almost shed tears of joy.
