Cleaned my K10D...

Just thought I would post this... if anyone else is experiencing AF issues with their old K10D, just open it up and clean it..

My sensor was pretty clean BUT the rest of the internals were covered in a grime, kind of like you would find on a car windscreen!

My AF had been hunting all over the place. Now I have been able to shoot birds in flight again!

Maybe I can make good use of my baby for a while longer...

Cheers,
Gordon

Well done.

You should post the detailed instructions + your own experience for the benefits of other users.

I'm another K10D user, I'd love a detailed description too.

Not much too it... started by blowing the inside of the camera out with a hand blower, then got lint free tissue and a lint free cloth and some glass cleaner (probably should not have used this but it worked), then got stuck in cleaning the mirror, then unclipped the focus screen and removed it, gave that a good clean as well as cleaning the bottom of the view finder prism... had to wrap the tissue around an ear bud to get in there...

After I was happy that the inside was free of dust and any other kind of nasty dirt, I put the camera into mirror up and shutter open mode to expose the sensor. For this I bought one of those sensor cleaning devices that looks something like an ear bud. I first blew gently around the sensor to get rid of loose dust, then used the cleaner to wipe the sensor...

My advice to anyone thinking of doing it is to probably take it to a company that specialises in cleaning... for myself, my camera is due for replacement soon so decided what the heck and did it anyway...

Hope that helps...
