It was downright nasty yesterday. We aren't used to triple digit temps here in the north country. The radio said it was 101 around 5:00 yesterday afternoon. Being a refrigeration mechanic, I have some pretty accurate electronic thermometers. Air temp in the parking lot was 117. Street temps on the blacktop will be similar with the added heat radiation off car and truck engines so anybody stuck in a traffic jam without AC was pretty uncomfortable. I'm off today and I'm loading up the kayak with the intention of staying wet all afternoon.

Look at the bright side; 6 months from now we'll all be complaining about the snow and cold. Hopefully we'll have a nice day or two somewhere in between; but you have a better chance of that where you are than we do here.
We have 4 seasons here: Winter's coming, Winter, still Winter, and sunovabeach it's hot!

I don't think that coming from ridiculously-extreme winter to unheard-of-extreme summer and looking forward to ridiculous winter again, maybe after drought and/or flood is really what most of the country's supposed to be like.

I'm just hoping there'll *be* temperate climes by the time I get back to one.

Thank You Mickey !
According to the NYC radio at 10:00 AM EDT this morning (7/22) it was
94 degrees (F )in NYC and only 90 degrees (F) in Phoenix.
This afternoon it is supposed to be so hot that at the Manasquan Inlet, NJ
they are planning to catch fried fish !

Many decades ago (in my wasted youth) I made the mistake of venturing from my San Francisco home to upstate NY, between Rochester (KODAK COUNTRY!) and Syracuse, north of the Finger Lakes along the Erie Canal. (Yeah, I was chasing a girl.) I made the further mistake of bicycling to Lake Canandaigua one summer day. Temperature and humidity were both around 98. I felt like I was exercising inside a boiling teapot. This reinforced my view that USA east of the Rocky Mtns is unfit for human habitation, and should be condemned and torn down.

Then I spent a couple years (courtesy of US Army) in central Kansas, where it's either too hot and too windy, or too cold and too windy. But that's another story. At least I had cameras in both locales.

Up until a couple of years ago, I would have argued with that.

Well, Rico, many decades ago, that would have been pretty rare for upstate NY, indeed. though summer heat and humidity together are no joke.

Down here, it's really just slowing me down a lot, but with the sun beating on the roof, it's started baking in here just since I turned off the AC just to try and do a bit ease off for the peak load hours when people are getting home.

I always think this roof should have PV panels on it, raised a little off the shingles, for shade as well as power.

But I wonder how they consider the South habitable *without* relying on all this AC. I miss New England.
