You've got to love technology and it's mindlessness

I was just browsing on this very well known website and noticed right under the info about the review of the 55-300 that the adserver thingy served up this gem.

I often get bizarre nude photography and sleazy dating website ads appearing on my free site...
I'm not at all surprised...

The great Australian firewall hasn't kicked in enough yet then or is that now something of the past.

I remember reading about how some parts of your government seemed to think (well, maybe that's the wrong term!) that Australians had to be protected from smut and that country wide censorship was the only option.

Don't know much about your country except for it's excellent TV series (no sarcasm, I really enjoyed some shows we got here) but I think it's safe to say that the average Australian is about the same as the average Canadian, less interested in perverse stuff and more interested in family and friends, keeping the job, paying the mortgage and cold beers.

We share many similarities with you Canucks... we come from similar roots, have similar values and I know many Canadian that happily calls Australia Home and Vice-Versa (I think Vancouvers population doubles in Winter with all the aussies that seem to end up there )

And as for the firewall... heh... I think its been demonstrated that it really only impedes and in no way prevents and the main protagonists are too busy trying to re-monopolize telecoms infrastructure in this country - so its not dead... Just having a nap on the floor of the policy room at the moment...

Well, sometimes you can actually filter some stuff about what appears on your site, at least depending on how much control your service gives you.

A lot of it's based on variously-targeted marketing: it's kinda spooky how many sites know I'm into photography, and apparently think I need to lose weight or need Christian dating services. (The latter two seems to be what a lot of gals get...constantly. I mean, I do hit a lot of cooking sites, but my appetite problems would put some anorexics to shame. ) Maybe guys get all these porn and Viagra ads just cause you're guys: I don't see them, and an informal head-count among a group of friends when the subject of targeted ads came up seemed like maybe that's often the case. )
