There was, at least for me, a very interesting interview by
Fareed Zakaria yesterday with famed Historian
David McCullough which included McCullough's view of how history will view Obama.
“I admire him very much,” McCullough said of Obama. “His time in office presented him with problems such as very few presidents have ever had to address. And given the complexity and the gravity of those problems, I think he’s handled himself very well. My hat goes off to him, my heart goes out to him.”
McCullough singled out an attribute in great presidents: “the capacity to move the country to do better than it thinks it can” and to do that through the power of language.

I have my fingers crossed that Obama and the US ends up with the best possible compromise in the end - and I am sure they will. I am equally sure that there will be many, many detractors.
