Although I never finished high school I managed to graduate (barely) from College with a diploma in Forestry. After 5 years of part-time and term jobs in the business I decided I needed a 'real' job to raise a family.

I stumbled into a job with Bell Canada and have been here for just over 28 years. Now I am classified as a 'Cable Repair Technician'. I have the task of repairing all types of copper telephone cables. Whether contractors or home owners rip them up or squirrels and woodpeckers chew and hammer on them - we repair them. Water entering the cable is our biggest enemy! It can be, at times, a dirty and frustrating job but usually I get some degree of satisfaction when everything works as good as new in the end.

Photography is the fun part of my life! I am not very good at it but I love to learn and get immense satisfaction from producing a fine picture.

Retired in 2004 after forty years in publishing (management);first twenty years working with consumer and trade periodicals, next twenty in book publishing. Lots of time spent with overseas operations;too much travel. Next two years working as a consultant. Now fully retired.

Have been in and out of photography since my early teens. Scrapped my darkroom (hadn't had the time or inclination to use it for years) a couple of years ago and went digital. Took quite a while to get to where I am generally pleased with my pp and printing skills, but still have a lot to learn. Finally have the time to go at it;hope the body holds out.

To get the bread and butter to me and my family, I spend some and sometimes a bit more of my time in crime laboratory.

Traveling as a sales manager for ID-Card printers in the south of Germany. Silly is that we sale this printers not to airports or so, we sell them to baking companys. In Germany we have a tradition of companys who make hand-made bread. There are a few thousands of them. The most have from 5 to 20 shops. And for these shops they need our printers to create theire price signs. Means for me that I travel around 80.000 km a year. Its nice for my hobby because that allows me to do a lot of photographie during the time from one bussiness date to annother.

On the other hand I wait for the day in 25 years when I can retire. Than the whole day is pic day!

Best,
Rainer

I'm a "Mechanic" for a local envelope company.
It's my job to start the machine in the morning and keep it running (filling the glue and ink adding pallets of paper, ...) also changing the machines settins to make diffrent types/sizes of envelopes.

Most (if not all) Machines we have are German made.

Everybody is a IT whatever or a project something or another......
My Dad was an engineer and pushed me hard to that calling, I was a great disappointment when I flunked out of college:-(.
So now I'm a custom cabinetmaker who makes some very cool stuff for successful people who can afford it:-).
Hey man, don't be down on your self. I wish I had the skills to do what you do. My carpentry skills are,..... well lets just say very amateurish at best.

I live to sing... 8^0

But for a living I am a Event Manager / Technical director for Parties. From large 10,000 people corporate parties, to High School Proms. A great job that allows me to play Mr Mom to my daughters during the day working on the computer planning the shows. Then working a few late nights a week actually managing them.

But what I truly love to do is sing in a band. It has been a couple of years since our last run but we have some shows in January and I cant wait...

My list of long gone
jobs....

Record store
Tireman/Mechanic
USAF Nav tech
Microwave communication engineering tech ( X and KU band )
Bartender
Wanna be Rock Star
Big Fish/Little Pond rock star
Sound Tech

Life is good!

That is very cool that you and your wife share the same passion for something and it is even better than you make time to do it together!!!

I would love to see some of your work... surely you have some pictures of it ???? To be a cabinetmaker you have to be part engineer to put them together, make them look good, and make the fit where the buyer wants them to go... Dont sell yourself short.. Im sure you do wonderful work!!!

Based on what my degree is in, I was supposed to be an elementary school teacher. As luck would have it, I've gone from an entry level IT jack of all trades (telecom, data, cabling, servers, helpdesk etc), to a Senior Consultant at a consulting firm. Current specialty is Call Center design and implementation, along with VoIP implementation.

Wishing I had caught this bug a year ago-would have had a nicer camera on my trips-thus far, been to Germany, Poland and a few US cities on the client dime, and some of the sites I saw, I could not capture...
