I've been running Gingerbread 2.3.3 (LeeDrOiD ROM) for a bit over a month now on my HTC Desire; but then again, I'm one who's rooted my phone and do tinker with different ROMs once in a while

well the awesome thing is that the main attraction for rooting is no longer now that free tethering is available (imo of course)

Free tethering available with 2.3.3? Ah...I just bought the Easy Tether app for $4.99 too...
I really wish the updates were more uniform, like they were with the iPhone, but I suppose it's difficult due to all the different hardware specs of Android phones. I'm using a Samsung Droid Charge, but really wish I had the Galaxy S2. No updates here though...still on 2.2.1.

My Droid Charge is still rockin' 2.2. There are custom Gingerbread ROMs available but none of 'em are stable yet. I'll wait it out. :P

Free wireless tether
I'm pretty sure it does not come with free wireless tethering. The option is there for all gingerbread phones but if you turn it on your carrier will charge you for using the feature so be careful. Most carriers charge $20-30$ per month to use wireless tether.

As another poster said earlier there are apps out there that allow USB tethering such as PDA Net or Easy tether but these also have draw backs. The free versions will not allow access to secure websites (this means most websites that require a password) but the paid apps will allow access.

hmmm very interesting. I said free because the "3g mobile hotspot" app was never on the phone before the update and than it just magically appeared. There's absolutely nothing on the application that says I will be charged in any way, but it doesn't say its free either. Sneaky B*&#$^%@ if I will be charged for it..... even though I only used it for 3 minutes MAX.

Still absolutely in love with the new update though..... however I have seen a decrease in battery life unfortunately.
