What OS do you use?

As most of us are now using Intel hardware (apart from a few PPC holdouts), the question of Mac or PC is really moot. So what OS' do you use on your desktop/laptop?

Mac OS 10.7, Windows XP, & Ubuntu Linux on Mac mini.
Mac OS 10.4 on PowerMac G4 & iBook G3.
Mac OS 9 on iMac G3 & Beige G3.
Mac OS 8 on Power Mac 6100/66AV.
Mac System 7 on Quadra 605.
Mac System 6 on Mac SE.

I use pretty much everything. Windows 7 for the media center and games, XP because my old printer won't work on anything modern. Linux for my personal enjoyment and Snow Leopard and Windows Server for development.

Well, let's see... I have 2 Govt computers here at home - one is XP, one Win 7 (another XP box at the office). My own computers have XP (1), Win 7 (2), Vista (2), and MacOS 10.something on an iMac. Plus a couple of iPads. And about 95 percent of my work time is spent logged into a Solaris box for coding, so I'll count that too

Not enough options. I use:

* Win98 on an old Monorail integrated mini-desktop (it drives my MIDI gear)
* WinME on an old Sony mini-laptop that can't handle anything newer
* WinXP on a big old Toshiba 'laptop' and a newer Sony mini-laptop
* F*cking WinVista on a lousy Compaq/HP laptop, for image/sound editing

I'd like to use Linux. I've tried since 1994 and NEVER had a clean install.
I tried the original 1984 Mac but feh... and I've not been tempted since.
I grew up on RSTS (DEC), OS-370 (IBM), HDOS (HeathKit), CP/M (various); and I've used many other systems, including, *nix and what passed for OS's on Sinclair, Commodore, TRS, etc.
I wrote a couple OS's and languages. Those are best forgotten...

My favorite ASM mnemonic: XPI, execute programmer immediately.

My condolences.

I tried to keep choices to OS' that run on hardware from the 21st century.

Win7 pro version on the desktop, just XP on the laptop lately, though I did have that double booting with Kubuntu Linux for a while.

Why would anyone use that in 2011 ? I have better things to do than waste my life using dead OS's then bitch about it.

Nearly 30 years? Good grief - you don't hold grudges lightly!

It won't be long before this poll will have to be re-run to include iOS and Android. If you think some of the posters here are running on obsolete systems now, I suspect that developments in the tablet area are going to quickly make some of the smarter-looking current PC OSes look very last-century. Apple's latest version of OS X acknowledges this.

I'm not emotionally tied to Windows. It's my Adobe that I can't do without. I don't particularly like the Mac OS's I've worked on, and my other most important programs are strictly for PC so far. I hate having to use some other virtual thing to run Adobe Photoshop on Linux. The Adobe and two or three other programs keep me pretty stuck. If they ever properly port them to Android though, or some version of Linux, likely I'd abandon Windows fairly quickly. But so far it's looking like a pipe dream...

If it ain't broke, why *not* keep using 'em? I have used many a computer long past it's market-theoretical lifespan, and gave it up only when one of two things happened: Either the hardware it was being used for (ancient laser printer, etc) finally croaked, or else I had some new program to run that wouldn't work on the old OS. I think I finally dropped my Win 95 (itself an upgrade from Win 3.1) box off the home network when the laser printer croaked in 2007 or so...

Just migrated from being a Windows user all my life to Mac OS X Lion. Makes using Lightroom a lot easier, though the general filing system is taking some getting used to.

Puppy linux on a celeron based netbook. I have nothing for processing raw files. Contemplating something a bit better for image editing.
