A full-page ad paid for by a supporter of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul in the Austin Chronicle asks, "Have you ever had sex with Rick Perry?"

The eyebrow-raising message comes less than one week after the Texas governor announced his candidacy for president of the United States. Justin Elliot at Salon calls attention to the ad in the newsweekly and notes that there is no evidence that Perry has engaged in an extramarital affair.

Text in the ad reads, "Are you a stripper, an escort, or just a 'young hottie' impressed by an arrogant, entitled governor of Texas? Contact CASH [Committee Against Sexual Hypocrisy], and we will help you publicize your direct dealings with a Christian-buzzwords-spouting, 'family values' hypocrite and fraud."

The Lone Star State Republican's wife Anita has been spotted by his side on the campaign trail this week.

Earlier this summer before Perry jumped into the GOP primary mix, Politico reported that the Texas governor's camp was prepared to combat unfounded rumors dating back to as early as 2004 that Perry is gay should he run.

Perry himself addressed allegations roughly seven years ago that he and his wife planned to divorce and that he was gay. He told the Austin American-Statesman at the time that he was being targeted with a "smear campaign" being conducted by his political enemies.

Seems even the conservative press thinks he's a crook.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but anyone who wants a laugh about Mr. Perry should follow this link (though perhaps not while at work):

I'm sure there will be all sorts of interesting things coming out about Gov. Perry now.

BTW, welcome back, Bill.

Two interesting graphics re: Perry's run:
Perry's Texas has produced more than two public sector jobs for every private sector job, and a disproportionate number of the private sector jobs are at minimum wage. The unemployment rate in Texas is actually smack dab in the middle of the 50 states. There really is no jobs miracle in Texas, and, given the number of public sector jobs, austerity measures are likely to impact his numbers.

The biggest issue is that is going to be a really bad year to be running as an incumbent. I really think the Democrats will lose the presidency (unless Michelle Bachmann is the republican candidate) and republicans will lose the congress. Economy is lousy, unlikely to get better and Americans have no more stomach for stimulus, whatever the benefits might be.

I don't think Bachmann is the only loser for the Republicans. I doubt that another governor from Texas will generate all that much enthusiasm, either. Right now, it the President may have some challenge from a "generic Republican" but against any of this declared field, I don't think he is in too much danger. Romney might have a shot, but it remains to be seen whether he could be nominated.

The house Republicans seem to have done everything they can to see that the jobs stay as they were or worse for 2012. It may be that the voters punish everyone for that.

Perhaps it's about "No more stomach" for right wing TV and radio pundits whining.
They do get tiresome.

Rightly or wrongly, Americans equate government spending to personal spending and when they seem government spending out of sync with revenues, they feel that it needs to be reigned in. This is not a "right wing" phenomenon, it is a "common sense" phenomenon and an issue that connects with the majority of voters. I think any Republican candidate will basically run on the platform "I'm not Obama."

They are lazy, aren't they!
Even I could do that.

Remember, they can't write their own laws either.
