Diva, of course!
+1! I'm surprised anyone remembers that! I have it on VHS, DVD and even the CD soundtrack (which I really should record on a portable cassette recorder for maximum authenticity!).

Absolutely beautiful cinematography. Just keeps getting better as the movie progresses. It's the type of film where most frames would be worthy of hanging on a wall as a beautiful picture unto themselves.

And Serge's Citroen Traction Avant 11CV is gorgeous!

Surprised my favorite movie of all time shows up in many lists: Casablanca. Has something for everyone: political drama, love story, foreign intrigue, 2 great stars, great character actors. Saw it just recently in the theater for it's 70th anniversary.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is high on my list, as is Casablanca. Dr. Zhivago also. The photography is stunning and I watch it in the winter months when I get the cold weather blues and can't get motivated to take my camera out and shoot. I love sci-fi and the original Star Wars series is a favorite. So is the Abyss. I prefer the old original The Day the Earth Stood Still to the newer recent version and the early 50's War of the Worlds. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is my favorite western with Unforgiven a close second.

Dead Calm was good, not just for the nude bits :-)

I don't watch many movies. I think that the last time I went to a cinema was 1990 to watch something completely unmemorable. We have many movie channels on TV, but I stopped watching TV over 6 months ago and I never really had the patience to watch anything but a really good movie on TV. I watched a few movies on a return flight from Melbourne to London and back in Feb., so my favourites may be a strange collection.

North West Frontier aka "Flame Over India" North West Frontier (1959) - IMDb The first time I watched this I was about 12. I'd traveled on trains just like the ones in the film about 4 years before when we lived on the north-west frontier. It scared me so much that I did the technicolour yawn and called to Herb.
Sound of Music. I saw this twice in one week, when I was 18, in the British army theatre in Herford, Westphalen, W. Germany in 1967. I think I had the hots for Julie Andrews.
The Graduate. I saw this in Aldershot, UK in 1968 0r 1969. The cinema was full of squaddies and I arrived with my girlfriend (later wife) and her younger sister. Two beautiful girls around 5'8" tall with great figures. One of them went on to model for Valentino in Rome - so not ugly . The squaddies called me a greedy b*&^%$ for having two hot chicks. I think I was just 20 and, having been to boys only boarding schools since the age of 9, this was heady stuff.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - no comment is neccessary - one of the great movies.
Fargo . I first saw this on 1 November 1997. I remember that day because it hit 40C (104F?) and that was hot for Nov. The film seemed to cool things down. I've watched it several times since then and have always made it to to the end. I watched it again on the plane and didn't switch to one of the other 50 to 100 or so movies available, so that's an endorsement.
No Country For Old Men - I'd been interested in this film, so I watched it on the plane to London. Really good film. Watch it if you haven't done so yet. Brutal. Do not watch if you're looking for a feel-good fillum. I've a funny feeling that I might have read the book.
Roman Holiday Roman Holiday (1953) - IMDb. what more could you ask for? Audrey Hepburn looking beautiful. No more needs to be said.
True Grit. I loved the original with Kim Darby and John Wayne. I watched the new one on the plane to London and really enjoyed it.
The Castle - lovely film. Watched it many times.

I'm sure that there are others. I just can't remember them at the moment.

Richard.

DIVA is about the best film ever made from a trash novelette. And I lust for that Citroen! As it happens, the little town I'm in, high on the USA-MEX border (Bisbee Arizona), has a Citroen specialist-collector with a dozen or more in stages of pre- or post-restoration. But no Traction Avant, alas.

Back to DIVA. It's utterly luscious and mesmerizing. I started with it on CED (ancient videodiscs) and now have it in HD. Yes, the soundtrack should be heard on cassette, for authenticity, eh?

Update: Pulp Fiction- I Love Quentin Tarantino's random yet perfectly entwining story line.
REC- Has to be one of the best "camcorder" style horror movies ever made, has you off your seat and shouting at the T.V (or running away and cowering in the corner)
The Hills Have Eyes- The fact that it "could" happen in real life and the endless "what's gonna happen next" cliche has you on your toes.
