Council Bluffs, Iowa, also has a large population of black skwirlz... Gig Harbor has none, at least that I've seen in the last year

RML, I love the "Elric" name for your blondie! Hopefully he never took up the sword...

Black squirrels are very common in Southern Ontario. When I was a kid their range extended to about 150 miles north of Toronto. Now there are a few in my home town, about 250 miles north of Toronto.

A few species have migrated this far north in the past few decades, including turkey vultures, coyotes, mourning doves and cormorants.

Mel, that is a good shot...heard it from Otis himself! We don't have any Black Squirrels around here, but Otis says he has a Battalion of them up in Canada...great for night assaults and clandestine undercover work.
Mostly the Squirrels here are just "Fat Squirrels".....I try to get them to eat healthy, but once they try Pizza it is hard to get them back on fruit and nuts. Pizza and beer....sure does put on the pounds......or ounces...whatever....

Apples....they still love those!

Best Regards!

They tend to be shyer of people, but that's not cause they're black: they're black cause they're usually shyer of people.

These guys in the Vancouver coastal park must get fed a lot cause if this guy had been any less shy he would have been eating directly from my bag of peanuts that were in my hand.
