The trick with vegemite is to have it on toast (or biscuits) with butter and to spead it thinly! I agree that spead thickly it would taste like poison!

I thought the point of it was you could supposedly get benefit of eating vegetation without having to spend all day grazing, kind of like Spam is to meat

There is no comparison between Vegemite and Marmite. People usually like one or the other though there are a few bogans about who do like both.
As a NZ Vegemite kid from way back, I recommend buttered fresh white bread lathered in vegemite and iceberg lettuce.
I do not recommend the "hot nourishing drink" that supposedly can be made from it. Sump oil has to be more palatable.

A childhood favourite is vegemite on Vita Wheat cracker biscuits, spead generously so that the vegemite oozes through the holes of the biscuit layers when gently squeezed together.

Brings back fond memories.

I got curious enough to look for some on Ebay and found a 5 x "single serve" offer with a reasonable p&p to Finland and went "buy it" to find out how it is first hand .

Vegemite is fantastic. As a matter of fact, I shall enjoy some Vegemite on toast directly after posting this. Delicious!

Vegimite and cheese is ok, but not the horrible mixture the now foreign-owned parent company has put on our shelves.
Thick white bread, a slice or two of butter (that's right, it's gotta be thick), and a smear of vegimite. Yum....

The trouble with the *****'s is that they think that everything is better if there is oodles of it, so they spread Vegemite like it is peanut butter. A little Veg goes a very long way.

Vegemite is an acquired taste, it needs to be savoured for what it is, not what people want it to be. Nothing better than Vegemite on toast and a strong cuppa first thing in the morning.

=Delicious Australian spread, made from used brewer's yeast. Non-Australians tend to give descriptions of it similar to 'tastes like a mixture of salt and battery acid'. This is because they are wimps, and need to drink more beer, eat more pies, and of course, eat more Vegemite.
Oh now I understand Vegimite if it's made from used brewer's yeast. Anheuser-Busch has a brewery about a mile from my house in Jacksonville and they pump the leftover stuff out to fertilize the grass at their sod farm that's located right across the highway from us. When they are spraying the leftovers and the wind is blowing from the wrong quarter, you keep looking at the bottom of your shoes to see what you stepped in. Thanks but I'll stick with my lye soaked corn, dried, ground fine and cooked with salt and butter (aka grits).
