UARS re-entry imminent

US officials now say the fall to Earth of Nasa's six-tonne UARS satellite could occur early on Saturday (GMT).
Estimates of where debris might fall will be narrowed hours before impact.
And a UK team studying the trajectory says the most likely time for re-entry could be after 23:00 GMT Friday, and as late as 03:00 GMT on Saturday.
Most of the decommissioned and now unpowered spacecraft should simply burn up, but modelling work suggests perhaps 500kg could survive to the surface.
BBC News - UARS satellite return expected later

Actually, I own one I was willing to sacrifice. Since it missed I guess I will have to rent the darn thing.

Another satellite is about to re-enter: BBC News - German Rosat spacecraft makes uncontrolled re-entry.

ROSAT is not quite as large as the UARS, but bigger chunk(s) of it are expected to make it to the surface. Again, the change of damage is rather small. In the future I guess it would be nice to know that no pieces are going to make it to the surface or that they are going to an unpopulated area .
