$493 left but the rent is due tomorrow. Life is all about choices. Some of them are really tough. My kids did the things important for their development and education. We had some serious family talks about the events they missed.

BTW, the game is skewed to sell its points, Several options could have been added to reflect real life.

Just played that before seeing this post. I killed off the pet, family and locked kids in the closet but managed to buy a used k-5 while living in my car. So my budget worked out ok. Oh, and I did with that initial $1,000 and did not take a job as that would interfere with playing with the camera.

the conservative approach is to live within your means - that means spending on nothing at all. Which will make you a millionaire in no time at all!

I did end up with some money, but not enough to make rent.

And if everyone does it, there will be a recession.

It's the part of MMT they don't get.

This game is rigged of course.
Just like real life.
The game is rigged by programmers.
Who rigged the real life game?

I've ended up with enough to cover rent, letting my kids do the fun stuff, and I've got my EBT card coming. I'm all set.

Cheap for a kidney.
So you cheated then?

That's something libertarians seem to have in common. That propensity.
That and an odd religion that believes in an omnipotent invisible hand.
Yet when that hand slaps someone down, you believe it's a lifestyle choice.

I'm not too attracted to spend much time on that game, because it depends too much on the programmers' assumptions. You can get through the month (without next month's rent) by denying yourself and your child human comfort, by hardly eating, and by putting off creditors. The part about renting out a room was unrealistic in that it violates the vast majority of leases and will get you evicted. However, one can do better than that in rent in some parts of the country, worse in others.

In the world of reality, there are things a clever person can do to get by for one month or even more, but to generalize that everyone can do them on a regular basis is a mistake. Some things, like Mike's haggling with local merchants described in another thread, can't be done by everyone, or there will be no local merchants left. You can put your landlord off for a little while, but only if your landlord has no mortgage. If you know your way around the legal system, you can probably hang on for months.
