I'm not really seeing the attraction over a second generation Intel i5 or i7 unless all you run is highly threaded applications?

This is a high end CPU to run against the top of the line Core i7. AMD has lower end Quad Core CPUs like the Core i5.

I could swear that...

I could swear that about 20 months ago when I bought an i7 quad core, there were i9 quad cores available as well. No all I am seeing are i7 quads and sixes. Maybe Intel rebranded the i9 quad as i7's and dropped the i9 branding altogether?
