Occupy Melbourne post eviction

The not so good Lord Mayor of Melbourne decided our Occupy Melbourne protest was in breach of a ceratain by law, something to do with camping in the City Square, so decided to send in the boys in blue to relocate them. The constabulary seemed to feel a little awkward about the fact that the whole world was watching their activities courtesy of various digital photography devices.
Some pics from the relocation.

Douglas, the protestors are living at Trades Hall for now. Michael, a lot of the protestors are also youngsters.
Kudos to both sides for their discipline. A pity the news peopters had to get extravagant with their reports.

Hope you don't mind my posting on your thread, but look what happened the day after City Square got cleared out: "closed for maintenance"!

Isn't it wonderful the protesters are in countries that allow freedom of expression.

Pop, looks like the maintenance crews are going to busy repairing those bent sections of fencing in your pics.

I heard the Melb Lord Mayor on the TV talking about why they needed to clear the square and it was total BS. He has little concept of freedom of speech and assembly. I could have been listening to the Mayor of Beijing.

If the police and officialdom had tried that in Greece or Italy, maybe even London nowadays, windows would have been smashed, cars burnt etc.
These protesters were totally harmless. Maybe that's their problem.

Occupy Melbourne will return, I might even join them when they do.
The Lord Mayor led the Conservatives as Opposition leader in State level politics and had to settle for running for Lord Mayor after being ousted by his own party. I suppose he sees an opportunity to show himself as a man of iron.

Does Melbourne make a habit of conscripting high school kids into the Junior Cop Squad? Some of those "constables" in the 3rd photo barely look out of diapers.

Mike I think we're just getting older and the junior police as a result look younger which makes it difficult to take them seriously.

Yeah those look like the first year recruits. Kids barely out of High School. Very hard to take orders from someone younger than my kids.
