Why and why not

Projected images at camera clubs.
Bearing in mind their limitations, why are projectors used?
Bearing in mind their superior performances, why are not monitors used instead?
My English club refuses to contemplate the use of a monitor.
Why?..and Why not?
Any input would be appreciated on a technical level.

A bit of tradition perhaps, dating back to when we shot slides, also ease of viewing for more than a few people at a time. If there are more than three people viewing the image, a computer monitor does not offer superior performance.
I don't have a problem with it, compositionally, it doesn't matter if the image is viewed on a cell phone screen, a computer monitor or projected on the side of a building.

In our club, it's a matter of storage (it's easier to store a projector than a monitor) and the ability to project images really large. I do see your point though. Our club has a maximum size of 16X20 for printed images, so why wouldn't a monitor be large enough for digital images? We're getting ready to buy an HD projector during the upcoming year. For about the same price, we could get a really good monitor that would probably have far superior color and sharpness.
