That sucks, i've been down that road before it's a giant PITA (mind you it is what got me back to Pentax when my Canon gear was stolen (older FD mount stuff almost 20 years back)

I've done that since the very beginning. We can learn a lot from serial numbers.

What goes into my lens spreadsheet: brand, type (prime, zoom, enlarger, erc), model, mount, focal length, max & min apertures, aperture type (auto, manual, A/M, preset/rings, etc), focus (AF, MF, n/a), near-focus distance, iris blades, front thread, bare weight, serial number, cost, country of origin, notes.

What goes into my camera database: brand, model, film or sensor size, type (SLR, RF, AF, etc), mount, camera serial, lens, lens serial, cost, weight, origin, notes.

Selling and sold items also have entries for money and profits. I never got around to dating anything and it's too late to start now!

A suggestion: Ask the victim to join here, and to enter all the Pentax items and their serial numbers into the equipment (camera and lens) database along with the notation STOLEN. Such would extend the reach of this thread. These threads drop off the front page pretty quickly. The database remains easily searchable.

I have given him a link to this thread. He told me before that he is not active in non-German forums. Probably, pixel4corn currently has to handle other problems. Without his laptop, internet access also might be very limited. As we Pentaxians are imho a closed and very friendly community, especially the A* 300/2.8 might be trackable. So, please look out for any online offers. Many thanks in advance!

froeschle, I assume that you have set up e-bay searches for the A* lens in Germany as well as on the .com site?

There are reasons there are photos of Everything of value I own in multiple places, including the internet. All of which, showing the serial numbers and any distinguishing marks.

OP.. Good luck getting any of your stuff back. If I see anything on the sale sites, I'll drop you a heads up so you can investigate.

True. Well, you've all convinced me to start a spreadsheet over the weekend. Of course it's Google Docs for me versus storing anything on a local drive.

Tell him to check CL Germany for his stuff first. Anything that looks like a listing of his stuff he should send the police a listing for. A woman just pegged her stolen laptop that way not too long ago and they helped her get it back. It's one of the first places they run to. It's less easy to track than Ebay. I'd start there, do Ebay, all over...

For anyone who wants to set up a database on your camera equipment, you can use this form as a guideline. Yeah, it's an ATFE form for listing firearms but page 2 is easily adapted for all your photo equipment. Put a copy in your safe, or firebox or safe deposit box or anyplace you know it is protected.
