‘Mission: Impossible 4′ Featurette Proves Tom Cruise Is Fearless

QuoteQuote:
If there’s one thing that looks to make Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol worth seeing in IMAX – besides the fact that 70 mm screenings of the film will include the Dark Knight Rises prologue – it’s the vertigo-inducing central set piece of the film, where Tom Cruise’s veteran IMF agent Ethan Hunt literally scales the tallest building in the world: Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.

Those who’ve seen the Ghost Protocol teaser trailer in either a regular or IMAX theaters already have a inclination about just how that particular sequence looks up on the big screen. Hence why it’s all the more appropriate that a new Mission: Impossible 4 featurette focuses solely on Cruise’s certifiable fearless antics.

Cruise pulled off similar gravity-defying stunts in previous Mission: Impossible flicks, including his “bare-handed” rock climb at Dead Horse Point in Utah during the pre-opening credits sequence in M:I 2 - and building-leaping maneuvers in M:I 3. Obviously, he performs all these acts via the assistance of safety cables, harnesses, and nets, all of which are digitally-removed after the fact. Plus… the man is certainly more than well-paid for his efforts.

That said: it’s hard not to admire Cruise for looking so casually focused while he climbs and swings around the famed Burj Khalifa skyscraper (which stands about 2,723 feet tall) in the latest Ghost Protocol behind-the-scenes clip.

Tom Cruise test drives Red Bull Racing F1 car and does a loop with helicopter !

QuoteQuote:
Red Bull invited Tom Cruise to take a break from production of his new movie, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, to pilot the Red Bull Racing F1 car through Southern California's 2.5-mile (4km) Willow Springs circuit.

He reached a top speed of 181 mph (291 km/h) - just 4 mph off the top speed of his instructor and 13-time Grand Prix winner, David Coulthard.

He also does a loop in a helicopter !

Tom Cruise at the top of the Burj Khalifa, Dubai

A pop-culture oddity is hiding some 2,700 feet above the baking Dubai desert. Atop the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and its 160 stories of glass filled with condos, hotels and offices, sits a thin, white spire that seems to puncture the sky. This is the highest any person can get on a man-made structure on the planet and more than double the height of the Empire State Building.

Yes, that’s right: More. Than. Double.

And there, scrawled 15 feet from the very top of the spire, is Tom Cruise’s autograph. Not that you or anyone else on the planet will ever see it. But it’s there, his name and a doodled heart with an inscription to his wife, Katie Holmes, and children.

Tourist Daniel Matthew could not believe his eyes when taking in the sights from world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. He was photographing the views when Tom Cruise abseiled past! Cruise is currently filming Mission Impossible 4 in Dubai.

Brad Grey must feel like the king of the world.

The Paramount Pictures boss, finishing up his seventh year atop the 100-year-old studio, finds his movie house the box-office champ of 2011 — the first time it has finished first in Hollywood in more than a decade.

A whopping $46.2 million in ticket sales over the holiday weekend for “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” helped Paramount all but lock up the No. 1 box-office position with $1.86 billion in tickets sold to its films through Dec. 25.

The strong performance of the Tom Cruise film helped hold off Time Warner’s Warner Bros., the box-office champ the past four years, whose take stands at $1.76 billion.
