I don't think conservatism is what's being criticized most often in these threads; rather it is the disproportionate number of politicians who've joined the Republican party in order to use it and the "conservative" label to further greedy and selfish ends. To me conservative is a good idea when applied correctly, liberal is a bad idea when applied incorrectly . . . and visa versa.

My liberal and conservative sides make me want all people helped on their feet so they can become contributing members of society, but I want that achieved through programs/policies that we have a way to pay for.

I also know just throwing money at things isn't the answer, but neither is abandoning things altogether. For example, some point out how much our public education system costs, and then suggest we stop funding it. The answer isn't to cutback, but to find out how to do it right. Look at Singapore or Finland where they have tremendous success with major investments they make in public education. The students graduated there join the work force in every way better equipped to out-compete the US in an ever-growing world market economy. We are something like 26th in education compared to the world and dropping fast; meanwhile we spend six times as much on prisons and law enforcement as we do education. Don't you think there's a correlation?

Another example is the Republican answer to the debt crisis. If a business is successful making medium sized widgets, and then overnight the demand changes to miniature widgets, a business can only survive if it invests in retooling and reeducating its workers. Businesses very often borrow for that retooling/reeducation process. If instead of investing in changing they decide to pay off all their debts, they will fail because no debt doesn't leave them in a position to conduct business.

Too many politicians populating the Republican party want to continue to let the poor go downhill, strip money from education with every new budget, want to bully the rest of the world into doing things America's way, would love to re-deregulate Wall Street and clean air laws, and are just fine with the ever-growing gap between rich and poor. I don't think those are "conservative" values, it's merely greed and selfishness wrapped in political ideology. The so-called "debt crises" is the perfect example of this where they use US debt as a pretense to cut any sort of money to be spent on helping the poor get on their feet, but God forbid ask the rich to chip in. The height of this hypocrisy is that a great proportion of the debt and our financial woes are due to the Republican-led Iraq war (a war-mongering disgrace), and Wall Street-banking swindles due to deregulation inspired by Republican trickle-down beliefs. Yet now they pretend it is Obama's inability for an instant fix that's the problem, and not only admit nothing, but also want to return to the kind of policies that got us in this mess.

Evidence for my hypothesis is seen in the current Republican candidates. The most honest, capable and experienced of the bunch is Huntsman, the rest are either dishonest or inept or both. And where do we find Huntsman in the polls? At the bottom because the Republican party has been taken over by ignorance and greed.

IMHO, we need both conservative and liberal thinkers in congress for a good counterbalancing effect, so Intelligent, honest conservatives and liberals alike should decry what the Republican party has become (at least in Washington).
Thank you for making sense. I agree.

all american news agencies are utter crap. if you actually believe FOX news gives the 'real facts' then you are beyond the point of help, completely brainwashed. conservative/liberal aside, FOX news does not give real facts. in fact they were just called out for citing a non-existent part of the constitution. besides all that, anyone who turns to FOX news with the idea that they get the 'real facts' and are a clear hard right wing conservatives, doesn't that pretty much say for itself that FOX news is anything but unbiased and and fair? oh yea, I forgot all the media are liberal socialists.

Personally I don't just watch FOX news, I get my info from other sources as well. It is a fact that the media is biased. Just look and see how much attention Obama got with his friend and known terrorist-Bill Ayers. Where was the media vetting there?

Well, a picture really does speak a thousand words - well done Jogiba!

Many of us really do recognize the worst possible side of Republicanism in those pictures - of course it is possible to demonize Democrats in the same manner......

Or is it - right now I don't have the same type of mental pictures in my head ..................

How much of a friend was Bill Ayers? The media reported that they sat on some boards together. I have sat on boards with people that I may or may not have even liked let alone be friends with. Did they socialize? Did not the media point out that it was guilt by association?

Other lies by Fox news:

The 911 terrorists entered the US illegally from Canada. Not one iota of proof they were ever in Canada and much proof that they entered the United States legally. Why the lies? And it was repeated over and over again.

Saddam Hussein used weapons of mass destruction on American soldiers. A study shortly after the Iraq invasion showed that 74% of Fox news viewers and less than 1% of PBS viewers believed that Iraq used chemical weapons on the invading American forces. This is from memory, look it up yourself if you doubt it. As the US or the international community found no evidence of Iraq even possessing chemical weapons at the time of the invasion how did they use them on your troops and even more how did your conservative government and its army fail to notice?

Last week shooter of the White House was part of OWS. What connection? A closer connection to Christianity than the protest movement.

One can watch MSNBC for political views and opinions not for news. One can watch FOX for political opinions, lies and a little bit of news. FOX news is not bias it is dishonest. Not because they are conservative but because they lie.

This is another attempt at perpetrating a lie. What you assert has been so thoroughly debunked that to try to resurrect it now is just plain ignorant.
Repeating a lie over and over doesn't make it true, it just makes the person repeating it a worse liar.

Hey Jogiba , you need to dig up some new material , you must have those pics saved in your favorites and use them regularly. From a photographic standpoint I find the perspective in the RIP USA one interesting.

The clip faux news played was actually from the 2010 straw poll but they tried to pass it off as the 2011 straw poll. After they were caught, they took a few seconds to mention they made a mistake, but never played the real clip.

Are you blaming getting laid off before Obama was sworn in as President on him?
It's really a stretch, don't you think?
