So, the fact that the supercommittee has done absolutely nothing is really, really good news.

Abject failure is a welcome development in the depths of a once-in-a-100-year financial crisis, when banks are still not lending, especially to small firms, and government isn't spending or hiring. A bipartisan agreement to cut the deficit in 2012 would, in fact, have been a disaster and would inevitably have pushed the US economy back into a recession or even a depression. So, this was a perfect fudge.

How do you allow people to sit on a committee when they have pledged not to compromise? A group requires compromise as much as it does concensus, otherwise nothing can happen.

To all the idiots complaining about Obama's lack of leadership, (especially super-idiot Bachmann); he was specifically asked to stay away from the Supercommittee, BY THE REPUBLICAN CONGRESS. A leader can't lead anyone who refuses to be led. Anyone who says differently doesn't understand the nature of leadership.

Reality: Did the president really do nothing to help bridge the chasm between Republicans and Democrats on the deficit "supercommittee?"

The president may not have helped the supercommittee to succeed, but former Gov. Romney actually encouraged it to fail.

Just one day before the supercommittee gave up and admitted defeat—just when the politicians needed some courage to make tough choices—Mr. Romney was urging Republicans to hold firm against any increases in taxes.

The facts show that both increased spending and reduced revenues contributed to today's debt problem. Poll after poll shows that the American people want a solution that would include both spending cuts and more revenues.

The Democrats proposed a balanced plan, but Republicans—cheered on by Mr. Romney—insisted that tax revenues would make no substantive contribution to deficit reduction.

The supercommittee failed.
