Fox News viewers less informed about current events, poll shows

QuoteQuote:
"The results show us that there is something about watching Fox News that leads people to do worse on these questions than those who don't watch any news at all," said Dan Cassino, a political science professor at Fairleigh Dickinson.

Fox news viewers are like the husband who's fat wife always asks him if she looks fat. Husband always says no dear and she's happy. As long as they're told what they want to hear, they're fine and needn't be bothered with those nasty truths.

Misinformation fed to the ignorant makes things worse

QuoteQuote:
...Among NPR listeners, 68% correctly said they had been; only 49% of Fox News viewers answered correctly. In fact, the survey found, Fox viewers were 18 percentage points less likely to answer correctly than those who watched no news at all.

As I've said before - our nation is in greater collective danger from Fox News at this point than Al Queda. Fox news is capable of doing damage, a far-reaching damage that affects the nation politically in ways that may take decades to mend.

It's funny... but not funny.

One of the CNN commentators made an interesting point last night. If the Romney camp says "The moon is made of green cheese" and the Obama camp says "The moon is a big rock", right wing media will report it as a disagreement. This is not a disagreement; it is misinformation vs. objective truth. Fox specializes in misinforming its public. It's deeply disappointing that so many Americans are buying it.

worry not, a lot of the younger generations aren't buying it. and with the way the GOP is making themselves look beyond ridiculous with its current crop of 'hopefuls', they are pushing the younger citizens farther from this type of nonsense. of course, I don't know what the future holds for american news and journalism, but I don't think can get much worse than it is now. thats saying something isn't it?

What's starting to scare *me* is that you couldn't engineer a vaccuum better if you tried. What's *really there* come down to it?

Fox News Viewers Less Informed Than Anyone Else? Who Could Have Guessed? | Crooks and Liars

QuoteQuote:
I know it will shock every reader of this blog to discover this, but this groundbreaking study proves what we've all known: Watching Fox News will make you stupid. Or keep you stupid. Or something. What it won't do is inform you. As Christian Finnegan pointed out to David Shuster on Countdown, Fox News' goal is not to inform, but to "provide light intellectual cover for the gut prejudices you already have."
QuoteQuote:
Exposure to Sunday morning news shows helps respondents on this question: seeing these programs leads to an 11-point increase in the likelihood of getting the answer right. Listening to NPR also helps, but the biggest aid to answering correctly is The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which leads to a 6-point decrease in identifying the [OWS] protestors as Republicans, and a 12-point increase in the likelihood of giving the correct answer.
