Clueless Rick Perry wants to cut $5 trillion -- from $3.7 trillion budget !

QuoteQuote:
Rick Perry made another slip on Saturday when he pledged to cut a whopping $5 trillion from President Barack Obama's proposed budget - a number which is $1.3 billion higher than Obama's total budget.
He also said in the appearance at a restaurant in Spencer, Iowa, that he wouldn't rule out naming Herman Cain - or someone like him - as his Secretary of Defense.
Oops! Rick Perry wants to cut $5 trillion -- from $3.7 trillion budget* - NY Daily News

How did this idiot ever get elected ?

Ok, not a huge fan of Perry (in fact I do not think he is not at all qualified to lead the country) but distortion like this does not help the political process.

When politicians talk about cutting the budget, they talk about a 10 year forecast. Thus five trillion dollars is a believable amount. Perry may not have explicitly stated this, but many politicians do not explicitly state it. I am fairly sure I could find quotes of Obama or congress talking about cuts with out qualifying that it is over a 10 year time period.

I can find a large number of real issues to criticize Perry about. I do not think we need to take him out of context (even if he misspoke, I am sure the plan he has on his website will say the five trillion dollars is over a 10 year period). Go after the real issues that do not make sense. Trust me, there are plenty of them.

Sorry if my post seems a bit blunt, but taking things out of context is my pet peeve.

Whatever cuts the Republicans want 100% of it is coming out of the bottom 98% because they are owned by the top 2%.

So, let's go with the mus-characterization of Perry's $5trill cut. 3.7....carry the three... $1.3 trillion excess budget cut. This of course must be returned to the taxpayer/voter, 140 million tax payers... carry the billion... round things out... That's a rebate of just a bit less than $10K per taxpayer.

This of course will be a huge stimulus, putting people to work, and further increasing revenues - remember, the government is not spending anything - which will further be returned to taxpayers. This is a brilliant plan, as people tend to think of tax refunds as crazy money, and so will encourage splurge spending and exuberance in the financial markets. And, it takes a hide bound ultra conservative from Texas to be able to propose such a thing without being called a communist socialist nazi.
