Just to illustrate that Muslims and Christians do not have monopolies on extremism, consider this story about how Jewish "Modesty Patrols" are harassing 8 year old schoolgirls in Israel.

I honestly can't imagine grown men spitting on and cursing at 2nd and 3rd grade girls...

If you notice in the photo in the second article, the curtain appears to butt right up against the seats on the women's side... leaving the aisle open to the men alone.

Fascinating. This has got to be troubling for many Israelis:

"The ultra-Orthodox Jews make up 10 percent of Israel's population and are its fastest growing sector because of a high birth rate."

Of course in large part some this is due to their attempts bring in as many Jewish residents as possible to offset the birth rate of other citizens. It's a conundrum with no easy answers for them. One would wish that the rational Palestinians could somehow get together with the rational Israelis and just teach all the others how to get along like nice children in the playground. But I suppose that doesn't really happen anywhere else either so I can't fault them too much.

Haredi Unemployment Puts Israeli Prosperity at Risk

Evidently most of the men in this particular sect, the Haredi, eschew employment so they can concentrate on their religious studies...

The high unemployment rate among Haredi men is threatening the future prosperity of Israel, costing the state $1 billion in 2009 alone, Bloomberg News reports.

For instance, in the 30 to 34 age group, a whopping 75 percent of Haredi men do not work, instead spending their time in yeshiva. At the same time, Haredim generally have large families and receive generous assistance from the government.

Sound like parasites to me... Especially when you read that while they lounge around talking about the Torah, they send their wives off to work.

Haredi women are exempt from the demands of religious studies imposed on men, and the Bank of Israel says the past decade has seen "a significant increase" in the employment rate among ultra-Orthodox women, now at almost 60 percent.

possibly because their husbands are pathetic sluggards...

Its all well and good to want to study your faith's teachings, but to leave your family nearly destitute and on welfare when you are capable of providing for them, or sending your wife off to work (while you stay home and then expect her to do all the house work and care for the kids when she gets home) is the pinnacle of laziness and irresponsibility and smacks of narcissism and misogyny.

It's interesting that stories like this and other extreme things being done in the name of religion (not to mention the numerous wars of a religious nature) appear to be increasing in frequency and intensity. It's getting easier to see that the nations will view religion as a threat to peace and stability (and world economies, while amassing enormous wealth) and will outlaw or in some other way turn against religion and their institutions.

What's even more interesting is that this is prophesied in the Bible in the book of Revelation, but it won't be an original idea on their part: "And the ten horns that you saw, and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire. For God put [it] into their hearts to carry out his thought...until the words of God will have been accomplished." (Revelation 17:16,17) Yes, God is disgusted by what he sees being done in the name of false religion.
