the Mayans didn't say the world would end in Dec 2012, we say the world will end in 2012 based on our understanding of a calendar that we can't prove was even an accurate representation of mayan beliefs. I find it hilarious how easily people are deceived and conned, how gullible people are. I wonder how many people are gullible enough to buy an RV for the ending of the world.

also, we know the world doesn't end in 2012, because Marty McFly traveled to 2015, and we're still rocking nike's and drinking Pepsi products. we're still just as gullible and ignorant though.

...and in Idiocracy, the main character travels 500 years into the future and if you haven't seen it, it's both a stupid 'B' movie and a scary commentary on the future of us idiots.

a 'mobile' home that is actually mobile, unlike the homes that are actually called 'mobile homes' here in the US. ^^ indeed, also known as a caravan. basically a Bus, designed to be lived in, not just travel in.

The most popular RV (recreational vehicle) is the travel trailer. Here is a photo of our 41ft Citation travel trailer being towed by one of the diesel Excursions that we had before getting a larger 3500 Chevy Express Van with 8.1L big block.

How much 'gas they guzzle' actually depends on how much you drive em, like anything else. And more of our energy waste in America actually comes from our homes than our vehicles, ...it's just the vehicles (Not to mention the car-commuting-based lifestyle) are often gratuitous about it.

I've sometimes regretted not buying an old trailer, back when I had a truck and nowhere in particular to go: I was just too ill to arrange it at the time.
And my sweetie and I considered a similar thing, so she could do seasonal scientific surveys and I could pretty much do what I usually do wherever I am. There's ways that even a self-motorized monster like that could be more efficient than conventional living. (Especially if you're moving all around and renting anyway. It's kind of the idea behind a lot of American 'Mobile Homes' that you might occasionally just have picked up and hauled elsewhere once in a while. )

As for people not understanding the Mayan Calendar or Mayan prophecies, that's kind of our Western bias to think every end of accounted-for time is 'the end of the world.' Actual Mayan shamans will tell a different story. Not that we aren't cruising for certain kinds of bruising. But, you don't need a prophecy for that kind of thing. Won't say I didn't buy a station wagon with an eye to maybe needing to scoot or have shelter for any number of reasons.
