Newt Blames 'Rise of 'paganism' for Gay Marriage

Well, looks like Newt, that paragon of 'traditional marriage' and fidelity and integrity, has decided to write off any conservative Pagan votes he might have hoped to get, by declaring 'paganism' is a 'threat to civilization... via marriage equality, apparently.

Gingrich: Gay Marriage a 'Perfect Example of What I Mean by the Rise of Paganism' | Right Wing Watch

You know what I've been saying about the Right scapegoating others and stoking hate for their own failures and dishonor? It's obvious that they have no intention of actually representing all Americans: all the frontrunners want to install a constitutional amendment enshrining marriage equality (So much for 'let the people decide,') now that the majority's for equality. So now Newt, the prime example of a hypocrite, is trying to stir hatred toward non-Christians, ...he's done it before, of course, but this is pretty egregious. Not to mention ignorant about just where democracy, republican government, and all that other stuff in our heritage *come* from.

(Substitute 'jew' for 'pagan' in there for an idea what it sounds like to us. There'd be a hue and cry. )

This is how the end of civilization starts

First Gay Marriage...
then Open Marriages...
then Polygamy...

Next thing you know people are marrying ducks and horses.

Save us Newt, save us.

Interestingly, Gov Christie takes a more politically nuanced tack:
1) make it clear he'll veto any gay marriage bill passed
2) appoint first openly gay man to state supreme court
3) suggests that gay marriage be put on the ballot in November

This of course is a tight rope walk, with a nod and wink to the Republicans - gay rights on the ballot brings out the conservative vote...

Gov. Christie's Same-sex Marriage Referendum Trashes the Right to Love

QuoteQuote:
One of the Republican party's shrewdest politicians just did a really stupid thing: he threw principle under the bus to avoid taking a stand. This was out of character for a man whom many Democrats like myself have admired at times for enacting unpopular but necessary reforms in New Jersey. But only a day after appointing an openly gay person to the N.J. Supreme Court, Governor Chris Christie suddenly yanked the rug out from under pending legislation to approve same-sex marriage and proposed, instead, a public referendum on the issue.

A public referendum? On an issue of civil rights? Are you kidding?

Worse, the normally blunt-speaking Governor offered up a pitifully lame canard for his decision: he expressed his serene confidence that the people of the state would do the right thing as surely, and perhaps even more surely, than the legislature. Oh, please, Governor. Tell us you don't really believe that.

Not after she gave birth. Oh I know that Catholic dogma is that she was still a virgin after giving birth, but they also believe in transubstantiation.

Well that did make it easier to convert the cannibals (at least the ones who didn't eat you first )

Mike,

If they work for the adult humans concerned, I see nothing wrong with your first 3 marriage options...

As for the ducks and horses, since they cannot consent or enter into a mutually legally binding contract with a human then the straw horse (no pun intended) that allowing gay marriage will eventually lead to bestial marriage is a simple scare tactic that you know is unrealistic.

Mike

Meanwhile, the economy is still in the toilet, millions are out of work, our jobs continue to exit overseas and the candidates are still trying to get elected on emotional issues that will have no bearing on the real problems this country faces.

But things were great in the late 50s / early 60s: there was only one kind of marriage, between a man and a woman of the same skin color, and mainly men worked, and we didn't have all the trouble with the undesireable elements, if you follow? Beside which, our parents / grandparents were in charge so we could just mess around.

Isn't this a part of what is being sold?

Back in the 70s of course Archie Bunker & co looked back a bit further:

QuoteQuote:
Boy, the way Glenn Miller played. Songs that made the Hit Parade.

Guys like us, we had it made. Those were the days.

Didn't need no welfare state. Everybody pulled his weight.

Gee, our old LaSalle ran great. Those were the days.

And you know who you were then. Girls were girls and men were men.

Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.

People seemed to be content. Fifty dollars paid the rent.

Freaks were in a circus tent. Those were the days.

Take a little Sunday spin, go to watch the Dodgers win.

Have yourself a dandy day that cost you under a fin.

Hair was short and skirts were long. Kate Smith really sold a song.

I don't know just what went wrong. Those Were The Days.
