Lock Your Doors?

Got this in an E-mail....haven't heard of this before, have you?

*How
To Lock Your Car and
Why*

I Locked my car. As I walked away I heard my car
Door unlock. I went back and locked my car again
*Three times*. Each time, as soon as I
Started to walk away, I would hear it unlock
Again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked around and
There were two guys sitting in a car in the fire
Lane next to the store. They were obviously
Watching me intently, and there was no doubt
They were somehow involved in this very weird
Situation . I quickly chucked the errand I was
On, jumped in my car and sped away. I went
Straight to the police station, told them what
Had happened, and found out I was part of a new,
And very successful, scheme being used to gain
Entry into cars. Two weeks later, my friend's
Son had a similar
Happening....
While
Traveling, my friend's son stopped at a roadside
Rest to use the bathroom. When he came out to
His car less than 4-5 minutes later, someone had
Gotten into his car and stolen his cell phone,
Laptop computer, GPS navigator,
Briefcase.....you name it. He called the police
And since there were no signs of his car being
Broken into, the police told him he had been a
Victim of the latest robbery tactic -- there is
A device that robbers are using now to clone
Your security code when you lock your doors on
Your car using your key-chain locking
Device..

They sit a distance away and
Watch for their next victim. They know you are
Going inside of the store, restaurant, or
Bathroom and that they now have a few minutes to
Steal and run. The police officer said to
*Manually
Lock your car door-by hitting the lock button
Inside the car -- that way if there is someone
Sitting in a parking lot watching for their next
Victim, it will not be you.*
*
When you hit the lock
Button on your car upon exiting, it does not
Send the security code, but if you walk away and
Use the door lock on your key chain, it sends
The code through the airwaves where it can be
Instantly stolen.*
*This
Is very real.*

Be wisely aware of
What you just read and please pass this note on.
Look how many times we all lock our doors with
Our remote just to be sure we remembered to lock
Them -- and bingo, someone has our code...and
Whatever was in our car.

Damn crooks...I hope they don't disturb my Rattler's nap time! I keep him in a box with a ribbon on it.

Regards!

Hah you don't have a Viper alarm, you have a Rattler

I've heard about this before but haven't seen it as yet in my neck of the woods.

They can try all they want to with my 10 year old Hyundai Elantra. It has electric locks yes, but no electronic locking or unlocking. I have an old fashioned key to unlock the car with.

Hmmm, maybe I should pretend to use a key chain electronic lock thingy to lock it with.

Rupert, is that the box with "Brand new expensive gadget" printed on it?

I think it's a joke because if you were the thieves, wouldn't you wait for the driver disappearing from sight b4 opening his car door? And they did that 3 times? Were they super dumb?

Also, modern car alarm should shuffle the code every time so even if they managed to steal the one your just sent out, it is useless. And sends out code when using the key? I say it's all bull.

Something similar to this was once featured in one of the Bourne movie episodes.
The newest threat is the ones that read the RFID credit cards...those you have to really protect, we've seen that already in use in parts of Canada.

Glad I live in an area where locking my car isn't usually necessary.

I often wondered if this would happen one day myself.
Anyways, our vehicle has a lock delay and we've gotten in the habbit of locking our doors manually prior to leaving the vehicle. Needless to say. I'm somewhat relieved that we don't live in areas where people break into vehicles and steal peoples stuff(small town folk).

I'd call it "practice".

It is not real -- didn't we just we establish that? Any modern car made in the last 15 years doesn't use the same code twice, so the thieves can't steal your code and then use it because there is no code.

Thanks so much for the heads up.

Our world is getting more fudged up and stressful every day that goes by.

I read an article yesterday that said research has shown that false or bogus information has become more credible than factual information in our society. I think this may just be true...and explains how certain Cable Network "News" stations prosper above all others.

It's on the internet, it must be true!

Probably started by a less than honest aftermarket seller of car alarm systems to scare people into buying something they don't need.

A friend of mine recently sent me photos of the giant human skeletons in Greece, which supported some passage in the Bible about giants.

If you google giant skeletons in Greece, you will find another Snopes page showing the original photos of a mammoth dig in New York...
