Venus and Jupiter put on spectacular planetary show

Venus and Jupiter put on spectacular show - Technology & science - Space - Space.com - msnbc.com

Jupiter is on the left and Venus is on the right in this picture, taken by Marek Nikodem of Szubin, Poland, at nightfall on March 12. "They are like two lanterns illuminating the darkness," Nikodem told SpaceWeather.com. "It's a wonderful sight."

So HOW do you get the two planets to appear large like that with the rest of the stars at their normal size WITHOUT doing some creative work on the computer?

I'm curious.

It could be a telephoto shot since Jupiter and Venus are much larger than any stars in the western sky after sunset.

My guess is they are so bright compared to the stars around them that they actually get over exposed and expanded for that reason. I turned off the auto-focus and manual focussed trying to correct this to no avail. That's just the way they come out..

one from my house. Many of the stars you see here, we couldn't see with the naked eye, and the planets appear bigger than they appeared to the naked eye.

Very clever work. Judging from your location, light pollution isn't a big factor.

Oh man, these photos make me want to just go out somewhere far from civilization to look at a nice star-filled sky! Over here all I see is clouds, pollution, lamplights, and passing airplanes

Was last week, but major conjunctions are rarely so very visible. Then you can be, 'This is the ecliptic of our solar system, according to which I'm on the *side* of Earth...

Feeling gravity's pull,
While they're reconstructing the fables....
