The Titanic sank on the 15th April 1912 taking more than 1500 people with her. Some special coverage:

I actually had both the iceberg strike time and sinking time in my ipad calendar converted to local time so I could take a minute for each and remember.

It was one of those stories that always fascinated me as a kid (when you don't realize what death means) along with the Tay bridge disaster in Scotland in the 1800’s. (1879?)
