Pentax Brand study

Dear all,
I'm doing a small Branding Study on the Pentax Brand for an assignment. Would be grateful if those of you who know the Pentax Brand either from having been users, seeing them at the stores or exposed to advertising even could answer the following questions (at the least Q1)

1. When you think of Pentax, what comes to mind?

2. Who do you think is the typical user of Pentax cameras?

3. If Pentax was a person, what would its personality be like?

4. When I say Pentax, what feelings does it evoke in you, if any?

Thanks so much in advance. It would be a big help.
Best Regards,
Krish

I'll give it a go.

1. When you think of Pentax, what comes to mind?
My cameras. Learning photography as a kid.

2. Who do you think is the typical user of Pentax cameras?
I think of someone who had exposure to the brand shooting film (but that's probably just me seeing myself )

3. If Pentax was a person, what would its personality be like?
Fun, friendly, talented. A great eye for detail?

4. When I say Pentax, what feelings does it evoke in you, if any?
A mild happiness i guess. It more inspires memory for me and then emotions attached to them.

Someone who does not want to have a Canikony camera.

Japanese and meticulous.

I get a smile and a feeling of loyalty to a dear/old friend I've known for most of my life.

All the great classic film cameras and manual focus lenses from the 1960’s and 70’s.

Someone who started with a Pentax film camera and is brand loyal.

4. When I say Pentax, what feelings does it evoke in you, if any?

35 + years of travel memories with my KX film camera, which has been to all seven continents.

Phil.

My daughter once showed me a videotape of Donald Rumsfeld in the WH Press Room claiming the USA had troops stationed on all seven continents. Her mentor, John McWethy, immediately challenged Rumseld (with a friendly grin, knowing Rumsfeld had mis-spoken), "All seven? We have troops on Antarctica?"

Rumsfeld, of course, knowing he had been caught, fumbled for an answer. Some humorous banter follwed, after which Rumsfeld challenged McWethy to state his age (as if to say, when he reached Rumsfeld's age he, too, would be entitled to an occasional mistatement).

McWethy replied, a twinkle in his eye, "Mr. Secretary, I am not at liberty to say."

I'd love to hear the story of your KX on Antarctica.

1. What comes to mind?
Great history of Pentax SLR/Dslr cameras. Leading maker of high quality lenses.

2.Typical user of Pentax?

Photographers who are particular about certain aspects of their equipment, more particularly lens quality.

3.Pentax as a person?

demure, and a little shy, not a loud leader of people. A quiet achiever, with results in mind more than accolades.

4.Thoughts/feelings about the word Pentax.

nervous about the future, yet proud of the name.

Trust I have been of some assistance and best of luck.

1. When you think of Pentax, what comes to mind?

Cameras aimed at sophisticated amateurs; the Subaru of cameras if you will

2. Who do you think is the typical user of Pentax cameras?

All kinds - save perhaps the fashion / peer driven person.

3. If Pentax was a person, what would its personality be like?

Somewhat contrarian and independent minded, self atcualizer, but also the appreciator of solid price/performance.

4. When I say Pentax, what feelings does it evoke in you, if any?

Tradition, continuity, a fallen empire, attention to what matters photographically

My wife and I went on a 3 ½ week Antarctica Ross Sea expedition, run by an Australian company using a Russian crewed ship. (100 passengers & crew) We had to do zodiac landings to get on shore, weather and ice permitting. We saw lots of penguins, seals, whales and birds; the only people we saw were on the US & New Zealand bases that we visited. Also did a couple helicopter landings inland.

I took my old KX and another KX as backup. Shot colour (Kodak Ektachrome) on one and b&w (Fomapan R100 reversal) on the other. It was their summer but was below zero C most of the time, it’s the wind that's bad and makes it even colder. Still it was sunny almost all the time with 23 hours of light when we were the closest to the South Pole.

It wasn’t until we went to Argentina in 2010, that my old KX hit the last continent. That was celebrated with my last rolls of Kodachrome. I have semi retired my old KX and just use it around town now. Its traveling days are over!

It used to be "high-quality legacy stuff". Nowadays is more like "overpriced gadgetry".

2. Who do you think is the typical user of Pentax cameras?
It used to be people who want to use quality, legacy lenses. Nowadays it can only be someone out of his mind.

3. If Pentax was a person, what would its personality be like?
I used to think of it as a bearded old man with a stash of lenses. Nowadays it's more like a teenager otaku girl.

None. After so many acquisitions and shifts on product visions the brand feels devoided of personality.
