Consider George W. Bush's foreign policy experience or Pres. Obama's foreign policy experience before they were elected president....zilch is a word that comes to mind.

The last two President's....one republican, one democrat.... were painfully short on any relevant experience and did it show in their respective administrations.

I don't know if you need foreign policy experience as such, more the ability to get the right people around you to help with policy. Bush allowed himself to be surrounded by PNAC signatories

So called foreign policy experience doesn't necessarily make or break someone - Nixon and Bush Sr. would be the two with the most. Bush Sr. showed it by stopping the first gulf war... Nixon started the process that allows us all our Apple products.
