What caused an entire nation to go insane

How come I always feel like it is the 2 of us..........

QuoteQuote:
s I have read about, and listened to, the Tea/Republicans, I wondered to myself, “Would it be possible for our entire nation to go insane?”

During bad economic times, people seek the comfort of “law and order” and they look for someone to blame for their troubles. The Tea/Republican Party, understanding the dementia that comes with human dissatisfaction, has done everything possible to prevent the U.S. from coming out of the recession (remember “the party of ‘No’?”).
It has blocked every initiative that would have helped end the recession and the widening gap between the 1% and the 99% (advocating low taxes for the rich, while demanding cuts in Social Securty, Medicare and Medicaid).
It has claimed stimuli “didn’t work,” based on the reality that though the stimuli helped greatly (without them we would have slipped into depression), the Tea/Republicans made sure the stimuli were not large enough for a cure.
The Tea/Republicans fielded a group of candidates unparalleled for incompetence and pure craziness (Cain, Perry, Gingrich, Santorum and Bachmann) all of whom expressed extreme “solutions” the voters, in desperation, grabbed for.
And finally, the Tea/Republicans settled on Mitt Romney, a candidate having no beliefs whatsoever.
With millions of people prepared to vote Tea/Republican (Indiana just did), it seems clear an entire political party – even our whole nation – can go completely insane. It has happened before.
–What caused an entire nation to go insane, and can that happen here?

It is interesting (and frankly, very frightening) to watch your country turn into a nation of mad hatters. The frightening part is that Canada will most likely be in the same role that Belgium and France were to Nazi Germany. When push comes to shove, you will send your armies after our water and oil.

One of many theories to why the Roman empire fell (west Rome at least) is that the upper classes actually got insane because they used lead for their plumbing... Don't know what the source is in this case.

It's all the chemicals in the soda and the fast food. Seriously. I think it's had a tremendous impact on us all here in America and everywhere that eventually adopts the same diet the same thing starts happening. People here were a lot more sane when they were raised on real food, less sugar, excuse me, corn syrup, and preservatives than they are now. It seems as our waistlines expand our minds get more closed and well, dare I say it, DUMB. They're warning us every day that more and more toxic crap is in our food, in the packaging that holds our food, in the water we drink and bathe in. The way I see it? All that exposure has to lead to something negative. From cradle to grave we're constantly bombarded by bad chemicals, radiation, et all. You can't tell me it's not having an impact on people, and particularly upon children with their developing brains...

Back in the 70's a majority of families had married parents and most only had the need for one parent to work.

Today... How many families have two parents? IF there are two parents the average family with two adults also has either of them working almost fity hours per week. Where's the family time?

Plus out of all the children that are in school - look at how many of them are literally medicated. Medicated instead of actually being treated.

america is set to fail

I'm not alarmed that these folks will take over and do something permanent. There's been a lot of political craziness and even malevolence through US history, and eventually all of it ends up in the fringe where it belongs.

The need for two partners to work is the real war on traditional marriage. So many don't seem to get that.

What's even funnier is that 27% of the country is registered Republican 38% Democratic and 40% are Independents with the them splitting right now 45% leaning both ways in recent polls. Yet somehow all the problems in the US are caused by the Republican party.

Record-High 40% of Americans Identify as Independents in '11

I thought it was because lacking 0, they had no way to indicate successful termination of their C programs.

You have a point there. Seems like the majority doesn't have the balls to tell a vocal minority to shut up... or maybe there's some kind of tolerance for minority opinions? Nah, probably the majority is sheep, the Dems are sheep.

Well, there are many theories. Like that Rome was doomed already around mid 3rd century when small pox hit Europe for the first time and killed half the population from which west Rome with its lower population to start with never recovered. It just took them 200 more years to realise they were doomed...

90% of Americans will think you are nutjob for saying that. But I think you're exactly right.
