Yeah, there is the fear, "What if she says, 'No'?"
According to my son who recently proposed to a young lady who told the world when she was 5 years old she would marry my son (they had never actually dated until the last year of college), the harder one was asking her father. They had discussed the possibility of marrying in general terms - but she had made it clear not to actually ask her "until you have talked to my father."
He did that without telling her.
Her father is a real character (of course he was all for it) and conspired with my son to craft a similar (though not so elaborate) surprise. Only he, I and my son knew what was coming. I was reticent about the public nature of the surprise, thinking she might rather have the private romance.
We had her entire family to our home for a dinner party celebrating a new job for her. After the small gifts and toasts to her success, my son excused himself from the table to retrieve one last item he had forgotten. Cameras out, down on the knee . . . her father and I brought out the hidden champagne . . .
Before she said yes she blurted, "When did you talk to my father?"
Of course
you want to marry
her. You just have to know in your heart that
she wants to marry
you before you ask.
They don't have a clue what's coming on thier honeymoon - her father is a
4real character.
