Cop claims "your 1st Amendment rights can be terminated"

Red Tape - 'First Amendment rights can be terminated': When cops, cameras don't mix

Some of these guys just don't get it... fortunately this one's bosses do "get it" because the photographer he arrested was released within minutes with no charges filed.

Law abiding citizens should have nothing to fear from the police. It is unfortunate we have so many sociopaths, drunk with power, 'protecting' us. They do other officers a disservice. A good cop should want everything recorded, while on duty. It protects everyone involved.

Tell that to the dozens of women and children (also a majority of the adult men there as well) that lived in Waco when the FBI, ATF, and others opened fire on the hourse there - first. But naturally it gets better - they burned a majority of them out as well weeks later - a few managed to escape. Te government justifiably settled with the survivors.

The Oklahoma federal building bomber was very much motivated by this issue; yet the united states governent massive dropped the ball on that one too. The people that cooperated were basically never caught.

IF one is ever confronted by police try best to do a few things, say and write nothing.

kenafein did say "SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR" not that they actually have nothing to fear. His statement is functionally correct. If you are a law abiding citizen you should not fear that the police will take any action against you. sadly the police usually live far below that standard.

That's one side of the story.

Sadly, there are thousands of examples that prove this.

In one respect, this cop is correct; your 1st Amendment Rights can be trumped by public safety concerns, the most oft-cited example being shouting "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater. Obviously nothing of that sort was happening in this video.

Precisely what I was implying. I really think everything should be documented, and officers should be held accountable if they deviate from protocol or law, or lie for that matter. An honest officer would also be protected if everything were recorded. It would protect them from false claims and accusations.
