People eat other people all the time

I'm not sure if this is a relief or not...

QuoteQuote:
In just the past week, a naked man ate a homeless guy's face in Miami, a New Jersey man threw his intestines at police, a Canadian porn star killed a man and ate parts of his body before mailing other parts to government officials, a Maryland man killed his roommate and ate his heart and brain, and a Staten Island pizza parlor owner nommed a dude's ear. It seems clear that this sudden burst of zombie activity points inexorably to the beginning of the end for mankind. But we started to wonder this morning — from inside our fortified, WiFi enabled, mountainside bunker — whether the only thing that's changed is that, in the wake of the headline-grabbing Miami incident, we've suddenly started paying a lot more attention to zombie-esque stories than we had in the past. After digging around, we found that while the frequency of cannibal stories over the past week is unusual, this kind of stuff happens fairly regularly. Here is a rundown of what we've found from just the past six months.

You also had that japanese guy from a few weeks back that had his genitals chopped off and served them up for a 100,000 yen per plate dinner. I suppose because I have eaten goat and lamb testicles in the past, the cannibalism aspect of that story was the most disturbing to me.

There are still some things in this world that you just don't do, IMHO. You don't abuse or f- animals, kids or very close relatives. You don't commit terrorist acts that hurt and kill people and you don't kill and eat other people. There are other things almost as bad, of course, but as far as the unholy trinity of taboos is concerned those are the three things I just can't wrap my head around people ever doing. The latter is admittedly the most horrifying thing to me. The very idea that someone could go all Hannibal Lector in real life is pretty freaky and no I don't buy the idea that getting stuck somewhere sans food for a month is a legit excuse to do that. People have survived fasts for a lot longer than that. People eating other people a week after a plane crash or on a boat drifting at sea that's just lame. Talk to me a month into it and I might agree with you but a week? Nope.

My time machine just got back from the year 2015 where I took part in a rescue mission to recover you and your fellow passengers from a plane that crashed on a mountain leaving you without food for a month. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to ask you if your feelings changed after a month because you were dinner on day 8 since you were so obstinate and insistent that everyone fast for a month and didn't eat anything on day 7. The good news is that pentax released a full frame DSLR.

if I recall correctly the survivors of the andes plane crash walked down the mountain... which is what I would have done before resorting to eating human flesh.......

No, it isn't the beginning; it's just one of numerous indicia that we are well on our way to the end.

The beginning was arguably the invention of the internet and/or cell phones. (or perhaps disco.)

Why ? The cases cited in this thread are more to do with mental illness issues. I'm not sure of the purpose of this thread...sensationalism ?

I thought that was the purpose of P&R in general.

To sensationalize ?

How so ?

Isn't the purpose...at least the goal to have reasoned discussion and perhaps intense debate over important issues of the day ?

Les, part of the point is that this stuff is part of the human experience / behavior... we call it mental illness and it is certainly sad when I read about it.

But there's a large degree to which this sort of thing is lumped with a lot of other stuff, either pretended it doesn't exist or demonized, by a lot of politco/religious power houses.

You know, Les, as much as I love and sometimes rely on reasoned discussion and analysis, there's times when you've just gotta stop rational*izing* the bad juju going' round and think laterally. Even the fact that people are paying attention to stuff like this just now is *significant.* Notice the 'don't worry' story is *world-and-years-spanning.* As opposed to a lot of people going nuts in a *specific way* right now, (Consistent with the 'bad drug cocktail' (called 'Bath Salts') if you have even the vaguest sense of trafficking patterns, even as out of date as mine, many of these incidents are entirely consistent. ) But sometimes you must look past *that* people are bugging out, and ask *Why in *that* way?*

It does in fact come to mind that a lot of powerful and influential preachers are, without much protest, wanting to kill LGBT people as 'abominations.' A false moral equivalency, but in times of 'moral panic,' those so-carefully-made false equivalencies are made, *especially* by people so deeply-repressed they equate themselves with 'abominations' (like cannibalism) that actually tend to revolt even the most social-darwinist or self-righteously-aggressive people in the world.

Deconstructing 'crackhead logic' gets pretty dubious, past a point.... but uncorking the cannibal in this 'Christian nation' *just now* has a lot to do with the very bad juju you guys displace. It's been freaking *me* out, and despite being pretty twitchy, I'm pretty case-hardened to some of this stuff. This is not separate from the rest of what we've been talking about. There'll probably always be crazy people, but when the *content* of the crazy takes a hard turn like that, people like me tend to clue in that it's all about some kind of more-broadly cast 'Bad Medicine,' if you will.

And if that's too mystical for you, the statistics are out and it's been a *record* year for violence against people like me. Hate preachers been stoking this, but someone *did* just throw a match at the psychotic people on the edge. When they all start acting the same way, yeah, I do unpack the rattles and feathers. It's really not about the particular match thrown or my personal stake in it: if anything, that's only held me back from stating the obvious: Same week as bald-faced atrocities are called for, and go uncontested, (by the people who 'eat their God' for the sake of 'abominable sinners,' crazy/messed-up people are suddenly taking the zombie fad rather gruesomely too far.

As much as I like to discuss things, friend Christian, this really is what we'd have said in the old town was just plain, 'bad juju'

(As much as you say 'No true Christian' about this or that, try telling that to a *crazy* Christian having a bad night. At you. As much as you guys ignore the fact that I've got stories about crazy-arse self-appointed 'witch-hunters,' you don't want to listen even when someone gets messed-up and wraps his intestines around a tree. I don't think he did that cause, whatever he was on, he loved himself as much as he should his neighbors, dig?) There's always a certain amount of In Vino Veritas involved when it comes to stuff like that. They used to blame PCP for stuff like that, but I had a friend who got that accidentally. He had a bad time, but he didn't hurt anyone.)

Same kind of thing. I gather. From report, anyway.

It usually takes at least a couple things going wrong at once to make an accident. When there's a cluster of things going wrong in the same way in the same place...you bet it pricks up my ears.

There is a serious alternative sexuality thread in a lot of cannibalism cases such as with the candian guy (gay), the japanese guy (asexual), and of the famous case of Armin Meiwes. I wasn't going to go there, but since you brought it up I might as well point it out.
