I'm a big fan of All American Racers and LeMans sports-prototype racing. I wish the team the best of luck. But I have to admit I hope future race cars don't end up looking like this.

I avidly observed motorsports long ago. I grew up in an area rich in drag strips, road courses, and ovals. My hometown is mentioned in hotrod songs. I built and raced models of many cars, but mostly sportsters and rods. I lost interest in racing when the vehicles stopped looking like they could EVERY be driven on a public road. I just can't identify with such techno-toys. O sure, tres kewl -- but that Nissan looks more like a dragster than a Gran Prix vehicle, let alone something that could cruise down Route 66. I can't become emotionally involved. Yawn.

RioRico... Motorsports is like so many other things: "Those who know cannot explain. Those who don't know cannot understand."

Le Mans 2012 - Nissan DeltaWing Final Preparations for 24h Le Mans

QuoteQuote:
With a race against time to prepare the hugely innovative Nissan DeltaWing for the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours on 16-17 June, the final pre-event test at La Sarthe, held less than 100 days after the car first turned a wheel, was a nail-biting affair for the whole team.

Interesting in that they need to put the front end on a caster platform to get it around easily in the pits. If it takes a shunt it looks like it will difficult to get it back on track quickly too. The narrow front end does not seem to have any or much dynamic down-force by design. Goofy looking for sure. It would have been nice to see some comparative lap times but I guess it's performance will become apparent soon enough. If I recall correctly Le Mans is higher speed and easier HS turns and a very long reliability grind so fastest single laps may not mean much at the end of the day.

I understand. Myself, I've always found they went very well together.

I'm in rico's camp. built a few cars as a kid and had fun, but I could drive them all on the street (barely in a couple of cases)

Lemans really lost me when diesels started winning because they got better mileage (Damn you Audi ), and it's been a while since the Lemans cars were just modified supercars like the Porsche 911GT1 or the Maclaren F1 or better yet an oldy like the Ford GT40

I like it. Bonneville meets LeMans, or perhaps fighter plane on wheels cool! Innovative thinking and I hope they are rewarded for bring something new to the track.

Fuggly vehicles to my eye is NASCAR, seriously fuggly.

It has an aerodynamic drag coefficient the same as the new Benz E-class coupe; the underbody must be generating a fair amount of downforce...

Unless there's some serious stuff going on to prevent any downforce on the front, this thing will fall over if it tries to turn a corner under braking. Think vectors.

Richard.
