Why do they make unboxing vids?

Is it a memorial to unboxing their worship object?

or

Is it to show what comes with a new item?

or?

Because they can. Because they must. Because their miserable stunted lives are so compressed and unrewarding and futile that there's nothing else to shoot. Because the voices in their heads tell them to. Because... aw fock, who knows? Ask them, not us.

When you are stuck at the 31st floor in an apartment building, that is what you are reduced to doing.

At least make it interesting. I would love to see a bunch of monkeys open a box with a new Leica.

Or--better yet--monkeys un-boxing an assemble-yourself chest of drawers from Ikea.

Because "they" have other people online who share their interests and who like to see newly acquired things get de-boxed. It's fun. It's the exact same thing that's routinely done here with the "Your Latest Acquisition" thread only they're doing it with video instead of still photos now. Most people like to show off their new toys. It's also helpful in terms of information. I like videos like that actually when I am shopping for something. It's hard sometimes to shop online and know what quality you're getting. You can look at reviews but they can be all over the place sometimes. Seeing the item on camera can be a big help.

I made a mistake with my first set of green screens because I didn't look actually. The ad wasn't written very well. What I thought was 3 green screens turned out to be 3 paper thin protectors made out of what looks like some kind of thin cheese cloth type material. A bit stiffer. The closest thing I can think of is the paper looking cloth they use under box springs and in the middle of bed ruffles these days. As protectors they're just about worthless. They're supposed to block stray light behind a regular screen but they're so thin you can see right through them. They wouldn't block anything. I seriously doubt they'd even keep dirt off the back of the screen. If I had seen a video of them before hand I'd have never bought them. You can bet I looked at a lot of videos on You Tube before I tried to buy another one. I actually bought the one I did because I could see that it wasn't hardly translucent when the guy showing it off put it in front of a light. It looked nice and thick and that particular shade of green looked easy to light. That wasn't the case with the two other green screens I was considering.

We do still and video box openings on my doll forum all the time actually. Some of us try to hang out that are in the same area but it's a fact that 90% of the forum members live far away from each other and that the only way we get to see what the new dolls really look like is by looking at pics or watching member videos. When it comes to dolls official publicity pics can be very deceptive actually and QC can really vary even with the big doll companies. If there are problems with a particular doll we all like to know it so we can decide whether or not to go there. If we're on the fence about buying a particular doll sometimes a video or some pics can make a big difference in our decision of whether or not to buy. I tend to buy cheaper Barbies most of the time but if I'm going to spend real $$$ on a more expensive doll you bet I want to see it "live" first if I can. A tiny publicity jpeg is usually not enough info for me.

The "latest acquisition" and other similar show off threads here are doing exactly the same thing. It's long been an internet board thing for people to take pics of new things, show them off, critique them for other members. How else would we know whether or not to buy something if people didn't show their "real" items off all the time? I personally would never appear in a video online showing off the things where you could see my face. That would make me very uncomfortable, but not everyone is as shy as I am. Some people like to see themselves on TV as they say. I don't. I infinitely prefer to be on the other side of the camera, thanks. But I don't knock other people who do things like those videos. I think it takes a lot of guts actually to film yourself doing a demo. In real life I can and have done one, but online, with the whole darned world watching? I don't think so...

I did it for documenting - in case anything broke during the shipping and you have a proof.

I'd rather see a video showing how they cram all that stuff into one little box at the factory.

Golly!

Somehow I had the impression that new Leicas were to be delivered by uniformed, bonded couriers, heavily armed. The package would be encased in a shearling lamb sack, within which reposed a hand polished rosewood coffer, inlaid with a 24 karat gold authenticated replica of Ernst Leitz' signature. Within the coffer, which is lined with the finest silk tapestry and padded with eider down, rests a 1.5x life size replica of the sacred object, the CAMERA! (This replica which contains the CAMERA is available in the purchaser's choice of various precious metals. Consult the high priest or priestess for the option list. Be aware that not all supplicants will be admitted.). The CAMERA is cradled within the replica of itself by a suspension system woven of carefully selected spider web.

Or was I mistaken?

It is fun to unbox new stuff.

I personally don't enjoy watching other people unbox new stuff.
