House GOP set for health care law repeal vote, but offering no alternatives - CBS News

She did not elaborate, nor did any of the members of the leadership in their remarks to reporters after the meeting.

Republican officials said the general reluctance to sketch any sort of alternative resulted from a desire to focus public attention on the health care law itself

The Congressional Budget Office estimated the GOP alternative of three years ago would have contributed to a reduction in premiums, particularly for individual policies and those covering small groups.

At the same time, the CBO, an impartial arbiter, estimated it would have left the percentage of legal residents without coverage unchanged at the end of a decade, a sharp contrast to the reductions envisioned in the Democratic legislation then taking shape.

Nor would it have required insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions or make other changes included in the law that passed.

The interesting thing is that they don't like the law that they drafted themselves.

how can they be against a law that is in place currently in Massachusetts, that has proven to work, is still working and was and still is the crown jewel of the now assured republican party nominee. the man they are pushing to represent their party is a champion of essentially the exact same law that they are trying to repeal. and his law has proven to work! I can’t be the only one who sees who crazy this is right? I mean lets forget for a second that they want to repeal it with no viable or even unviable alternative to put in its place, despite admitting that healthcare needs reformimg. but how can they say its terrible for the nation when there is proof it works, and it comes from the very man that they say is who they want to be president. how could he even repeal the law nationwide and say its bad, when back in the state he enacted it, it would still be in place and working?

Simple, as Romney has said: they will replace Obamacare with all the popular provisions but not pay for any of it.

The Republicans aren't about what works, they are about getting back in power, and they don't care what lies they tell to do it. They know that a lie repeated often enough will be seen as the truth, and they know that it's easier to sell fear than hope.
