Any opinions as to how Kodak will end up?

I fear for the future of Portra, Ektar & Tri-X films. I hope they will continue even if Kodak doesn't, but after what happened following the Polariod bankruptcy (decades of instant film emulsion know-how gone, Impossible Project having to reverse engineer everything) I have no confidence those Kodak emulsions will be with us much longer. I hope I'm wrong.

Hopefully, a profitable film-and chemical-maker for a largely self motivated film market just like they started. Just cause they're a lousy digital camera company doesn't mean they didn't even get to be a name with ...providing simpler stuff for half a century for a.....specialty market?

Polaroid is making a comeback...somewhat, i still see a few guys shoot large format and using Kodak film and paper and chemicals some have stockpiled while looking at Fujifilm alternatives for film ...

It will end with some old guy sitting in a chair, stroking a Persian cat, cashing checks from all of the Kodak patents.

Kodak films are priced way above Fuji and Ilford. Walmart only carries Fuji. I guess Kodak is at the supermarkets and drug stores. I haven't really looked.

Fuji, a film company, made some nice high grade dig cams over the years. Kodak, a film company, paid the Chinese to make cheap dig cams with their name on it. Kodak made high grade senors for dig cams but sold that biz off, from what I've heard. But, I don't hear much about Kodak these days. Seems they are selling everything they can off to raise $$. Yes, it would be nice if Kodak kept on as a smaller company preserving its film division.

Who would ever thought there would be such a big 2nd hand market for expired Kodak film?

Kodak needs to stop thinking like they're failing to be what they were in the late 80s' and start being the American Ilford. No one *cares* how they corporately compete, they need to sell stuff. They have the means.

American Ilford?

Don't know much about Ilfords health. But I used Ilford films back in the day and always loved the results.

I still have a bunch of film in my freezer including Kodachrome 120 . I tested a few rolls of 20 year old Kodak 135 film and it still looks ok to me.

There will be no more Kodak, they're selling off all they can...they're done end of story.

I think you're right. At some point though the name will probably survive. Like Bell and Howell and Poloroid, they will be a brand name peddling cheap, foreign crap.

Only old consumers know about Kodak and they will all be dead much sooner than the younger consumers who don't know about Kodak so the brand name is not worth much.

Right, like the US made DSLRs and iPads have much better quality.

Except the film and processing chemicals, there's nothing worth saving.

Sadly, that's what they did with the majority of their digital camera business.

They do have some key patents, and get money from the likes of Mircosoft and Apple because of it.
