They're all coming through on my end on several different computers and the iPhone.

Big Bore Pistols? Okay............................

The top one is a Smith & Wesson Model 58 .41 Magnum, the bottom is a Ruger Alaskan in .454 Casull. I have a Smith & Wesson Governor (.410/.45 Colt/.45 ACP) as well, and a few .45 autos but don't have pictures.
I have a couple Bond Arms derringers with several different barrel sets for them including .410 3"/.45 Colt, .45 ACP, and .357 Mag. Too many others to list, but none that I would call big bore. Mostly .357, .22 LR and .22 short, and one 9MM.

I thought the same thing with "big bore" CMP shoots...

If they're shooting .30-06 or .308, that's not what I would call big bore.

At the time the moniker "big bore" was given, it was to distinguish the difference from small bore, i.e. .22 rimfire. As far as I know, there was/is no ruling to the actual bore size, but during that period of time, .30 caliber was very popular given the war surplus ammo available. Hence, .30 caliber became synonymous with "big bore".

Guess I'm late to the party! My dad got me started shooting when I was young. He competed in large bore target shooting, including the national matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. I bought my first hand gun, a S&W Highway Patrolman at age 21 in 1971, and have been adding guns, long and short ever since. My dad was also a reloader, so I followed his foot steps there too with a single stage RCBS and a Dillon 650 progressive press.

Here are my two most recent additions. Both are DPMS. The larger is .308 Winchester and the smaller .223.
Thanks Tom, I'm now drooling all over my keyboard but as Pickles said we down here can't be trusted to own or use such firearms.

I've always been interested in firearms, particularly high powered hand-guns, which are 99% impossible to own in Australia, along with most firearms. I used to own a Lee Enfield (SMLE Mk 111?)., a lovely rifle....bought it around 1959, from an Army disposal store, who delivered it to the local Railway Station, where I picked it up on my bicycle, & rode home with it.....ya'd be arrested for that now!
I'd welcome any images of Forum members' hand-guns, particular big bore stuff, or any "Old West" Rigs etc.
Cheers, Pickles.
I laugh when I think of riding my bike home from my schools Army Cadet training day with my issued Lee Enfield .303 slung over my shoulder for the W/End training bivouac.

Definitely arrest material with todays nanny Australia.

The bottom picture?....surely a MASSIVE calibre for such a "compact" pistol...Can you describe what it is like to shoot it?...recoil/accuracy/range etc.
VERY interesting, Pickles.

I shoot that mostly with my .45 Colt handloads, or .45 Colt equivalent loads in .454 cases, and it isn't at all unpleasant with those. With .454 300 grain factory loads it jars the bones in the back of my hand substantially. It doesn't take too many rounds before it becomes most unpleasant. A few years ago one of the judges here in town gave me 5 rounds of the 350 grain stuff that he shoots. They're still in my desk drawer. I haven't got up the nerve to shoot them yet. It's as accurate as anything else I have. (Barrel length has very little to do with intrinsic accuracy of a gun.) I have no trouble keeping on 6" paper plates at 50 yards.

Yes. The 454 is a hunting round or, in the case of your revolver, a self defense gun against very large, and very ornery animals who can be really tough to put down if they attack. If you were standing in the path of a charging Alaskan Brown Bear you would not even feel the recoil of those 350 grain rounds. But they most certainly are not intended to be target rounds.

I don't have what I would call a big bore rifle either but I do have a .300 Weatherby Magnum which is a serious cartridge. I will try to get some pics of my pistols and revolver up by the weekend. However, they are 10mm, .45 ACP and .44 Mag.

I have a potential buyer coming to pick up my motorcycle tomorrow night. A chunk of that money is going toward a custom bolt action in .260 Rem.

Check this thing out for a custom big bore bolt gun.

She Kicks Like a Mule!

Possibly the largest bolt action caliber ever made.

I have a Ruger .454 Super Redhawk with a 2x20 scope which will put them on a 6" plate, from a rest, @ 100 yards. Using probably my most accuarate load of 335gr SW full house. I used to shoot the .44 Mag S&W 29 for many years but it was only a matter of time before I graduated to the Casull then back to the Redhawk .45 Colt / 4" barrel. Now, turning a bit of a wiener here is my favorite shooter.
