Dream specs: An AI that can understand a Boston accent.

And a holographic darkroom.

A scanner that ever works? Would a printer be too much to ask?

Or a dehumidifier and some fixer and paper, come to think of it.

Sorry, I'm just going to get back in the DeLorean, try this with another timeline. It'll be all right.

I think I'm lucky enough to have just received my dream machine from Apple.

iMac 27", i7 3.4GHz, 16GB DDR3 1333 MHZ, Radeon HD 6970M with 2048 MB VRAM, OS Mountain Lion 64 bit.

Just installed Adobe Lightroom 4 & Photoshop CS6.

That's me all good to go, well apart from the learning curve, been a few changes since CS3

I'm fixing to build something new. My dream? I want to be able to upload a few hundred RAW shots into Lightroom without it slowing to a crawl after editing about 50 or so.

Once I get the new video card, the extra RAM and the better power unit in this machine the Dell will be my perfect machine pretty much. It's been a good computer this Dell actually. I could use more RAM definitely and the native video card was only so-so but mostly it's fine. I am thinking I am going to have to get a bigger monitor eventually though. I always thought 22" was enough but between the graphics and the games I've become addicted to playing I think I need a bigger one or I'll probably go blind....:P

My dream machine doesn't exist (yet).
But when it does, it will mean 0 wait times following image processing tasks
It would also be controlled by my mind(why not?). Such things as keyboard, mice and pens are just so yesterday.

Anyways, back on earth, I could do with a water cooled/overclocked i7(latest architecture). 24GB RAM, 2 x 240GB SSD drives(one for OS, one for scratch), 4 x 2TB HDD in RAID-10 configuration. The rest is pretty much standard I suppose. Even though... it still trudges through 36MP composites and so were a long ways from being there imo.

Most of these look like they are built for serious gaming, not photo processing!

I built this Win7 PC earlier this year. It's primarily for home office, photo editing, some light gaming, etc.

AMD FX-4100 3.6 Quad-Core CPU
ASRock MB-970 Extreme 4 mobo (5x SATA 3, 6x USB 3.0)
Crucial M4 64GB SSD (boot drive)
Seagate Barracuda 1.5GB SATA III (2x, RAID 1, data drive)
Liteon BR/DVD-RW/CD-RW optical drive
Seasonic M12II 80Plus Bronze 620W power supply
16GB Kingston Hyper-X Blu 1600MHz RAM (4x4GB)
Gigabyte Radeon 6770 1GB video card
NXT Source Elite mid-tower case

What I really need is a good, 24" IPS monitor.
