Mitts Columbian cartel connection

well not really but it is funny..
You always get a second chance when you have the cash............

Mitt Romney Event Host is a Convicted Colombian Narco | Fox News Latino
QuoteQuote:
Republican Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney held a campaign event Monday evening at a juice shop in Miami, Florida owned by a convicted Colombian cocaine trafficker.
Romney appeared at El Palacio de los Jugos, which is owned by Reinaldo Bermudez. Court records show that Bermudez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 1999 and served three years in federal prison.
.............................Agents seized about 2,850 pounds of cocaine at three South Florida ports over several months.
Agents first seized 430 pounds of cocaine at the Port of Palm Beach in July 1997 and then 117 pounds in late September at the Port of Miami. Those shipments were concealed in containers filled with fish imported from Trinidad, an island in the south Caribbean. The largest and final seizure came in late October at Port Everglades, where officials found 2,304 pounds of cocaine in a container of soap imported from Venezuela.
Authorities learned of all three cocaine shipments through court-authorized wiretaps on four of the suspects' home, office and cellular telephones, according to media reports.
As a convicted felon, Bermudez wouldn't be eligible to vote in Florida unless the governor and the Cabinet restore his rights.
my favorite part:

“Here in Miami there are a lot people with money who have had problems with the law,” Bermudez told the New Times. “Thankfully, we all have the opportunity in this country to re-enter society when we've done something wrong.”

sure, that will play well in "middle america".............

Yes. For example, when President Obama announced a change in immigration policy Fox News Latino ran the headline - Obama Administration Halts Deportations of Young Immigrants while Fox Nation ran the headline - Obama Administration Bypasses Congress, to Give Immunity, Stop Deporting Young Illegals.

Ahhh I see.. what I don't understand is how this would play into the Latino community????? Seems counterproductive..............

counterpoint to a wealthy drug kingpin..

QuoteQuote:
Miami – The non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation estimated last year that the Affordable Care Act – referred to by its opponents as "Obamacare" – would extend Medicaid coverage to some 8 million Latinos.

That was before the July Supreme Court ruling that allowed states to refuse to expand Medicaid without incurring penalties.

Now several states, including Florida and Texas, say they will decline to expand Medicaid under President Obama's health care law, leaving many Latinos too poor to afford health insurance, but not poor enough for Medicaid.

Sandra Pico, for example, is poor, but not poor enough.

She makes about $15,000 a year, supporting her daughter and unemployed husband. She thought she'd be able to get health insurance after the Supreme Court upheld President Barack Obama's health care law.

Then she heard that her governor won't agree to the federal plan to extend Medicaid coverage to people like her in two years. So she expects to remain uninsured, struggling to pay for her blood pressure medicine.

"You fall through the cracks and there's nothing you can do about it," said the 52-year-old home health aide. "It makes me feel like garbage, like the American dream, my dream in my homeland is not being accomplished

Pretty flimsy connection to the cartel I would say. He served his time and now runs a business so what? If he lived in Canada he would have been able to vote even while in prison, that is one right you only lose if you are deemed incapable due to failing mental capacity. But back to the original story, it is a non story other than he did his time and now he has a business and must be some what successful to have the GOP candidate drop by. If Obama did the same thing those on the right would be very quick to associate him with drug crimes as well. Not the correct thing to do in either case.

I said "not really"......never connected him to the "cartel" unlike the Bain "seed money" and the Salvadorians............. Sorry if the title threw you.........

Reading between the lines (and getting busted w/ THOUSANDS of pounds of cocaine, and only serving 3 years (makes some "pot smokers" in TX who got busted cringe.. )...and how long was he doing it for ? (Was his "wealth" all from cocaine, and do we consider that a "successful businessman" ala papa Kennedy?)

A lot more to this than meets the eye.. also see bolded quote above..

Interesting. Perhaps Faux is actually interested in delivering grown up news to people it obviously considers more intelligent/discerning/informed than it's core audience? Or perhaps there'll be a sort of bait and switch down the line.

Don't you mean Colombia? Although I guess Columbia could be where Barry got his blow.

How about Eric "never met a terrorist he didn't like" Holder?

QuoteQuote:
In 2004, Holder helped negotiate an agreement with the Justice Department for Chiquita Brands International in a case that involved Chiquita's payment of "protection money" to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, a group on the U.S. government's list of terrorist organizations. In the agreement, Chiquita's officials pleaded guilty and paid a fine of $25 million. Holder represented Chiquita in the civil action that grew out of this criminal case
