As the "blue guy" from Sesame Street always said, "it's all about the cookies".

The same can be said about ones computer. Between any version of internet browser and also any setting one happens to have on ones computer and the like; that one most always leaves a rather massive footprint in the sand wherever one goes on the internet. Even most internet providers which one even pays for - still sell your information. To what extent exactly? Some internet providers make more by selling your information than from your subscription fees and costs. Even the so called free WiFi points frequently sell ot your information.

For americans... Ones entire online history snce you turned eighteen is indefinately stored in more than one location. Might I also clearly point out that... Even if you do not happen to have any type of Facebook account or profile does not mean that you are also not on Facebook. As the Facebook (company) also has quite the volumes of information about many people whom have never had accounts. Think of it as a version of you've been tagged

How much more interesting facebook would be if this were true!
Instead we get, "Thinking of changing my detergent... what do y'all recommend?" (no kidding, I actually saw this once) or "4 a.m. ... can't sleep... I wish my Blackberry played disco lights with my mp3's" (seen this too) or "sitting in traffic... wonder what I should make for supper".

Blaaahhhhh!

Sadly this exposes 2 major problems of living in this age of easy access to personal information...

1 - Once you put something out on the net, it's out there forever. The more we put out there, the easier we make the job of anyone wanting to gather intelligence on us. Google yourself (and all the aliases you have used online in the past) often, you'll be surprised how much is out there. Back in the 80's I used to run a BBS that was connected to the Fidonet (pre internet newsgroups days) and many of my ancient posts are still out there... archived forever.

2 - So called "psychics" charlatans like Sylvia Brown don't even need to cold read you and play the guessing game anymore... often the scraps of information they find online are enough to convince people who want to believe in those frauds.
