Verizon Wireless Coverage Map | Verizon Wireless

The state of West Virginia has far less than fifty percent of any mobile coverage of any sort. But then again, a very large majority also don't even have anything available outside of dial up internet.
That map looks very similar to how it looks here in NW Penna. There is no coverage where I live - have to travel ~40 miles until there would be coverage.

But for internet, I am very fortunate to be at the very end of a cable line. Years ago, the owner of Adelphia Communications helped out his neighbors (he lived in a very remote town in North Central Pa) by running lines to a lot of us without thinking of any possible profit from the line runs. For example, I am at the end of an 8 mile line run where there are ~17 homes attached to it. Before that I was using DirectWay satellite internet with the big dish. Very slow and had very limited caps of daily usage.

I just use a cheapo Nokia dumb phone for calls and carry a ipod touch for all the other app based stuff, the phone goes for days on a charge and so does the ipod. I absolutely love the ipod touch, there are so many great apps, and it seems like there are wifi networks almost everywhere these days so I don't really miss the cellular connectivity.

The Verizon antenna will most probably support your iphone 4 by offerring older 3G and HSPA technologies as well, they'd be daft not to!
We now have a super fast 4g LTE antenna and NO new voice service. I dug out my original 4g Droid Charge and re-activated it to see if it works. It does. I consistently get 20 to 35 mbs down and 5 to 10mbs up depending on my location. All this and I still can't make a call reliably. I don't know why they went this way in my small village, but maybe they're going after the data only folks and trying to steal business from the the phone company ISP. I suppose also since this LTE service is supposed to support voice in the not to distant future, they figured this was enough for now.

If you are getting such fast data speeds, have you considered using VOIP on your mobile phone, one way to solve your voice coverage problems. Theres an app called Csipsimple which works very well on Android for VOIP.
