Crazy Ebayers!

Good heavens it seems Pentaxians are out in full force on Ebay, I have never been bid-sniped so many times in my life!

Vintage gear seems to be getting a bit more scarce, so I'm willing to bet that biggers are much more aggressive these days than say a few years ago!

well, for me bid-snipping is a very efficient, and allow to keep price quite reasonnable for lens.

Because when you see sky-high price for some lens, like all the F/FA, it doesn't give you much choice if you want to try to get the lens.

I only use sniping software. That way I avoid being drawn into a bidding war. I set my maximum offer and that's it. I win a lot and lose a few.

It is strange how bidding on identical items takes off for some auctions but not others. Typically if I am bidding the item will go for over normal going rate. If I'm not paying attention, it's half off.

Sounds a lot like Me. I can almost guarantee the seller a large profit just by placing a bid

GIXEN - Free eBay Auction Sniper

This is the only one I've tried.
I've used it for about 20 bids and it's been 100% reliable thus far.

That is what I have used as well. Unfortunately, it does not talk sense to bidders willing to pay above market value...

Same thing happens with watches. Prices can get weird very quickly. I try not to buy in auctions if I can help it because I hate being sniped. It's irrational but its true.

Thanks for the link. I'm new to Ebay, and there's an auction ending tomorrow that is probably going to end up in a bidding war. Send in the big guns!

I usually only look at buy-it-now sales at ebay since the bidding usually does go crazy with camera gear. For the times that I do want to bid, I've used gixen for years. Although it is free, I give the guy the $6 a year for his service as it is very well worth it to me.

Thanks for the reminder. I agree that such a useful service is worth the $6.

I saw a Sigma 70-200 HSM II (non-OS) a few days ago listed and the bid was for $600 described as like new. I waited until the end to bid and was willing to go up to $750. Ended up getting it for $733. The seller was a bit slow to reply to my email and when he did reply he said he had tested it one last time before packing it and that the AF was not working. Guess I'm lucky to find out before it arrived. The seller was pretty prompt to cancel and refund the whole amount.

I ended up buying a copy from Amazon Market (used) for just a bit more and was able to use reward points as well.
